Huskies beat Lancers 4-1, advance to U Sports Cup men’s hockey final

HALIFAX — The host Saint Mary’s Huskies scored three unanswered goals in the first period and then coasted to a 4-1 win over the Windsor Lancers in men’s semifinal action at the U Sports University Cup on Saturday.

Player of the game Ben Boyd scored twice for the eighth-seeded Huskies, including an empty-netter at 18:35 of the third period that ended all hope of a Lancers’ comeback.

Matthew MacDonald and Reid Valade also scored for the Huskies, who outshot the Lancers 26-25.

Ray Hamlin scored a power-play marker for the Lancers in the third period.

The Huskies will play either the third-seeded UQTR Patriotes or the University of New Brunswick Reds in Sunday’s final.
