It Looks Like a Movie Set — But This Fort Is Full of Real Canadian History

By Nerissa McNaughton on May 27, 2025.

Looking for a summer getaway that blends history, culture, and unforgettable experiences? Put Fort Macleod your road trip! Located in one of the province’s most scenic regions, The Fort offers a unique glimpse into the past while providing activities and exhibits the whole family can enjoy. Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of heritage, or just looking for something fresh and interactive to do, The Fort is a must-see destination this summer.

Preserving History

The Fort Museum of the NWMP and First Nations Interpretive Centre is a living testament to the stories that built Canada. This site commemorates the arrival and history of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP), Canada’s first national police force and the precursor to today’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Established in the late 19th century, the NWMP played a foundational role in shaping the Canadian West.

The museum does an incredible job of preserving and sharing history. Step inside, and you’ll find intricate exhibits featuring artifacts, photographs, and compelling stories about the police, alongside Indigenous stories and artifacts. The museum connects visitors with this unique, and often challenging past, in a way that feels both educational and deeply personal.

Attractions to Put on Your List

One of the highlights of the Fort Museum is the Musical Ride. This display showcases horsemanship through a performance inspired by traditions rooted in the original training of the NWMP. The choreographed show features riders in authentic uniforms, showing maneuvers on horseback with precision and flair!

Visitors can also explore how these performances come together behind the scenes. The museum offers insight into the grooming, care, and bond between riders and their horses. You can even choose to groom a horse for an additional fee (must be booked in advance).

Why Remembering History Matters

History is the foundation of our identity as individuals and as a society. By examining the past, we gain a better understanding of how our present came to be. Places like The Fort remind us of the important lessons we learned in building and settling in the West. Remembering history also helps ensure we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.

Reading about history in a textbook can only go so far. This is why interactive experiences, like those offered at The Fort so impactful. When you step into the museum’s immersive exhibits history ceases to feel like a distant concept. Instead, it comes alive in a way that’s engaging, memorable, and fun for all ages.

Plan Your Visit to The Fort

This summer, give yourself and your family an experience you’ll never forget. Fort Macleod’s The Fort museum invites visitors of all ages to step back in time and connect with an important chapter in Canada’s history. Explore its exhibits, enjoy the Musical Ride, groom a horse, and revisit the past.

Google pay 500$ per hour my last pay check was $19840 working 10 hours a week online. My younger brother friend has been averaging 22k for months now and he works about 24 hours a week. I cant believe how easy it was once I tried it out.
