It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and husband, Fred Thomas Ames, on Feb 21, 2018 at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre in Blairmore, Alberta. Fred was born to William and Ada Ames in 1932 in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Along with his six brothers and one sister, they were raised on a small farm near the Shell Waterton plant. When he was young, he had many jobs, in banking, seismic, surveying and at Johnny Green’s grocery stores. He married Alice Breidigam on Nov 24, 1954 and they were happily married for over 63 years. Fred and Alice took over the homestead east of Pincher Creek from her parents, in 1957. Then Fred became a farmer, working alongside Alice and his three children, raising livestock and growing crops. He also volunteered for many years with the Coop Board and the Summerview Gas Coop. Fred loved farming, fishing, hunting, and dancing. He also enjoyed his miniature donkeys and watching the birds at the feeders outside his kitchen window. Crib was a favorite pastime for Fred and many games were played around the kitchen table at the farm. He had a way with children, and especially loved spending time with his grandkids and his new great-grandson. Fred is survived by his three children, Murray (Marilyn) Ames of Campbell River, BC, Larry (Gail) Ames of Cochrane, AB, and Lorri (Lloyd) Mokler of Strathmore, AB.
