Pronghorns add Rattler to roster

LETHBRIDGE HERALD
The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are adding a little rattle to their roster for next season.
The Horns announced the addition of Medicine Hat College Rattler Kennedy Werre to the 2015-16 recruiting class. Horns coach Erin McAleenan has had Werre in the fold for most of the offseason already.
Werre adds some size to the U of L squad as a five-foot-10 forward with long arms and a tenacious style of play. She’s played two season at her hometown college for Jason McLester, whose teams are marked by a nagging, ball-pressure defence in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. That means she should be ready to contribute immediately.
“Kennedy is a tough competitor and her athleticism will help us in the forward position,” said McAleenan. “She can step in and play right away, and her experience from playing two years for Jason at MHC have really helped her develop into a CIS player.”
McAleenan told The Herald that Medicine Hat has produced a number of strong players in recent years and she’d love to see some more migrate down Highway 3 to Lethbridge. Her recruiting class already includes McCoy grad Danielle Fritzke, who played basketball with Werre in high school.
An ACAC South second team all-star last season with the Rattlers, Werre averaged 12.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and was named the team’s most valuable player. The 5-10 forward averaged 6.1 points per game in her freshman season.
