Local church hosting community prayer event for municipal candidates

By Lethbridge Herald on September 2, 2021.

Galt Gardens will be be a place of prayer tonight.
Hosted by Amazing Grace Community Church, Thursday’s Prayer in the Park #YQL, which starts at 7 p.m., aims to bring together prospective councillors and mayoral candidates with the rest of the community.
The AGCC’s Rohan Crown chose to move ahead with co-hosting the event after local speaker Colette Aikema approached him. “It was a no-brainer, really,” says Crown, “My only question was, ‘Wait. Why haven’t we done this before?'”
Aikema said last year she saw firsthand how the City’s leadership struggled to cooperate.
“In fact, they could barely look each other in the eye,” she said. “As a Christian I want to see the church community come together with the new candidates – Lethbridge’s next visionaries and lawmakers – and not just meet them in person. We want to see Lethbridge pray together for their unity and for the state of our city.”
The work for Prayer In The Park began in June after a format was decided.
While Pastor Crown invited church and community leaders, Aikema was busy arranging meetings with every city council and mayoral candidate.
While it sounds simplistic and spiritual, Aikema says nothing could be needed more in southern Alberta.
As a young mother of three and a public speaker with a Calgary-based ministry, Aikema said she looks forward to seeing the church confess and repent of its inaction, while recommitting to the practice of prayer as a community.
For inquiries and more information, contact Aikema at coletteaikema@outlook.com or (403) 894-2293.
The event can also be found on Facebook @Prayer in the Park #YQL.

Google “Colette Aikema”. She spends most of her energy advocating in favor of Conversion therapy.
Yeah, we need this group ” arranging meetings with every city council and mayoral candidate”. I’m hoping the candidates are smart enough to see through her motives and not give her any serious thought. What are they going to do to the candidates that do not show up to her prayer meeting in Galt Gardens?
Religious Fundamentalists of any stripe need to be viewed cautiously.

Can you explain why you believe that I support conversion therapy? For clarification and context, please watch my Parliamentary testimony (https://fb.watch/7NZSrnVDud/) You will see that I strongly oppose all coercive counseling, and my story explains why we should not be having this fight the way we are.
Asking for a proper, agreed-upon definition in order to protect Canadians from all communities is not the same as advocating in favour of conversion therapy. Before you accuse Lethbridgians of having malevolent motives, how about we have a coffee and a conversation instead?

Where has the Church been? I wrote a letter that I was going to send to the churches, but never sent it so I am now adding it to my comment here!
First I am very happy to see that one of the churches in the community has become active in taking back our streets and pray this only increases!
Below is my letter:
Where is the Church?

As I watch our streets of Lethbridge ravaged by addicts that are homeless from their addictions, young men and women dying on our streets and in hospitals from the disease they contracted from prostitution and sharing needles . . . where is the Church!
As many have their children’s bicycles stolen and parents’ bikes with their children’s tow carriage stolen, vehicles broke into or stolen . . . where is the Church!
As our parks are taken over by addicts and homeless who perform open sexual acts and debauchery, use the park as their toilet, to get high and leave needles where they last used, and in the park asleep all times of day in the parks . . . where is the Church!

The Church is the most powerful institution in the world! Why are we allowing Satan to take over our cities? This is a Satanic attack on a country that is supposed to be a Christian nation . . . where is the Church!

We are under attack on several fronts as the Last of the Last Days unfold and I ask again . . . where is the Church?

Have we forgotten the Word! Have we lost our Faith! Have forgotten how to pray?

The Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-17

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Where is the Church? Where are the Prayer warriors?
We shut down the killing machine they called a safe consumption site where people died in the site’s own parking lot and within blocks of the site. The site was shut down and we saw a decrease in fatal overdoses, but now the problems are getting worse as illegal drug consumption sites grow in the city and more social services are employed to support those in need from their addictions, while effective treatment programs are trying to get trained personnel.
We are the Church and we have the power through the Blood of Christ to pray for the binding of all the Principalities of Darkness, evil spirits, demons and Satan himself to be bound in all areas to take back our city and save these young people . . . where is the Church!
Spirits of addiction, crime, prostitution, human trafficking are all under our authority through the Blood of Christ . . . where is the Church!
Galt Gardens has a stage that could be used for tailored Church services to try to bring salvation to the addicts while reclaiming the park one step at a time, “every place the foot shall step”!
The Church is the most powerful institution in the world . . . where is the Church?
We CAN stand in faith and take back our city in prayer, using our weapons of warfare and by following the Holy Spirit!
Will the Church rise up and take back our city?

Colette Aikema

We should absolutely connect (coletteaikema@outlook.com). Everything you say is what we want to do. In fact, last night we spoke of how the churches of Lethbridge have simply neglected to minister to our city the way Jesus calls us to. We are to blame for failing to give hope and a future to this city. One of the canididates who used to live on the streets was handing out water downtown, and a woman followed them on her bike. She asked them repeatedly, ‘Where is your pastor? These people need a pastor down here!’ Amen, lady. Amen.
