Toastmasters winners compete for division title

By LETHBRIDGE HERALD on November 18, 2020.

Skilled speakers who won area speech contests representing local Toastmasters clubs will entertain online audiences while competing in the Table Topics and Humorous Division Speech Contests which continue to the end of November.
District 42 Toastmasters, which encompasses 115 Toastmaster clubs in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, is holding six division contests where competitors vie for the opportunity to move forward to the district contest.
Table Topics speakers develop their skills to deliver a two-minute speech with no preparation. These impromptu skills are invaluable in an interview and when meeting new people. Humorous speakers not only entertain us, they make their points more memorable through their use of amusing language and stories.
Members of the public are invited to get comfortable at home and take advantage of this unique opportunity to view these contests online, on their own computers.
“Listen and watch the best humorous story tellers and quick-thinking competitors during our speech contests this fall,” Christina Kruis, DTM, District 42 director 2020-21, said in a news release.
Toastmasters officials will choose the winners who advance to the next level. Would you vote for the same winners?
Kruis says this new online stage demonstrates new strategies to be effective on camera and supports the development of new ideas in the virtual world.
“Humorous speeches and witty Table Topics make for engaging entertainment,” she says. “We welcome guests to laugh with us at an online contest from the convenience of home. Hope you can join us.”
Contest details and dates are available online at D42tm.org. You can watch live at http://bit.ly/D42TMYT.
