A 37-year-old Lethbridge man facing several drug charges remains in custody following his first court appearance since his arrest.

Kevin Paul Rabeau appeared briefly in Lethbridge provincial court Friday, where he was represented by duty counsel Brett Carlson. Carlson told court the accused needs time to retain a lawyer, and the matter was adjourned to Thursday.

On Tuesday, following a short investigation into drug trafficking, members of the Lethbridge Police Crime Suppression Team and the K9 Unit went to the Travelodge hotel in the 1000 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South to look for a man staying in one of the rooms.

A man and woman, both with outstanding warrants, were found inside and arrested without incident. During a search police found methamphetamine, carfentanil and crack cocaine worth more than $10,300. They also seized a can of pepper spray, brass knuckles, drug paraphernalia and more than $7,300 in cash.

Rabeau is charged with one count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000, three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and two counts each of knowingly possessing a prohibited/restricted weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon while prohibited from doing so.
