County implements season road bans

By Jensen, Randy on April 4, 2020.

LETHBRIDGE HERALD

As of 7 a.m. Monday, Lethbridge County implemented seasonal road bans on paved and hard-top roads as detailed in the road ban order. Citizens should be aware of the affected roads and maximum allowable weights and can visit the Lethbridge County website at http://www.lethcounty.ca for an updated list of 2020 road bans.

The majority of hard-top roads will be banned to 75 per cent load as defined in the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Dimension and Weight Regulation. All gravel roads will remain at 100 per cent. Gravel roads and haul routes will be continually monitored through the spring season.

Operators holding road-use permits under Policy 352 should be aware that seasonal bans are in place and supersede the unrestricted loading as detailed in their permit.

Any operators who are located on banned roads and exporting products out of Canada may apply for exemption under an Export Permit by contacting the County’s Picture Butte office at (403) 732-5333.

Both the province and surrounding municipalities implement road bans when the roads are most vulnerable in an attempt to maintain an acceptable and safe level of service and to reduce the amount of damage caused by loading during periods when the road is most susceptible to excess deterioration.
