Fresh Start Recovery Centre (FSRC) Calgary has acquired the South Country Treatment Centre in Lethbridge County.
Transitioning to the name Fresh Start–South Country, the Centre will honour the previous work of both agencies and their new common vision as operations began full-time onsite this week.
“Fresh Start Recovery Centre is excited by the energy that we feel in the City of Lethbridge. This City has said loud and clear that they need more recovery-oriented supports and we are excited to be a part of that,” said Stacey Petersen, executive director of Fresh Start Recovery Centre, in a news release. “Together, our organizations will bring a holistic and focused approach to addiction treatment to southern Alberta.”
Oversight will be delivered by the Fresh Start Recovery Centre board of directors, executive director Petersen and director of operations Bruce Holstead, while daily onsite operations in Lethbridge will be managed by Tony Kokol, in the acting role of operations manager.
Kokol has been part of the Fresh Start Recovery Centre team and management for the past 10 years. Serving both men and women at Fresh Start–South Country, the centre will transition from a 28-day program to the proven 14-week addiction recovery program used at the Fresh Start Recovery Centre in Calgary starting next week.
“Fresh Start Recovery Centre has helped impact and recover many lives in Calgary these past 28 years and we are confident that they have the knowledge, experience and ability necessary to expand and modernize the operations of the South Country Treatment Centre to meet the increasing demand for a recovery-oriented system of care in Alberta,” said John R. King, SCTC board chair.
“We are delighted to bring Fresh Start to the Lethbridge community,” added Craig H. Borgland, board chair, Fresh Start Recovery Centre. “The pandemic has only accelerated rates of addiction in our communities and with our nationally recognized treatment program, committed staff and network of passionate supporters we look forward to providing hope to those in need.”
