Are you feeling bubbly, tickled pink or simply groovy?
Or perhaps you’d like take 2020 and literally throw it in the trash.
If so, Visit Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Lodging Association has five themed hotel rooms in the city for you to explore those themes and donate to a local cause in the process.
Starting today, Visit Lethbridge and five local hotels — Best Western Service Plus Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Express South East, Holiday Inn Lethbridge, Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge and Wingate By Wyndham Lethbridge — have teamed up with Spotlight Rooms, one at each location boasting a unique theme designed for family fun.
And while you won’t be able to spend the night in the Spotlight Rooms, those interested in visiting can book a 20-minute session for $5 and have a fun photo shoot to be entered into an online contest with all proceeds going to the Lethbridge Food Bank.
“Anyone can come in and they’re booked in 20-minute segments to take photos,” said Dalene Heck of Hecktic Media Inc. “If you stay at one of the participating hotels for $89 a night you can get access to all five of the rooms. If locals or anyone else want to come and have a photo session in the room it’s $5 each.”
Looking to give each room a fun theme, Visit Lethbridge turned to Heck of Hecktic Media Inc., a noted globetrotter alongside her husband, Peter, to help with the creation of the theme rooms and the social media.
“We’ve been around the world a lot and have seen some versions of this in different places, but not a hotel effort like this,” said Heck. “It’s a fun, safe, interactive way for people to come and enjoy these rooms.”
Best Western Service Plus Inn & Suites features the Rub A Dub Dub In The Tub theme; Holiday Inn Express South East has Under The Sea; and Holiday Inn Lethbridge has I’m Dreaming Of A Beach Vacation. Wingate By Wyndham Lethbridge has That 70’s Room, while Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge has Put 2020 In The Dumpster, a graffiti-styled room allowing visitors to literally take a 2020 sign and deposit it in the trash.
“We workshopped a lot of different ideas and this is just one that stood out as something that would be really fun and colourful,” said Heck. “The point of the rooms is that they’re fun. It’s a type of scene that would do well on social media.”
There’s also a contest for people who share their photo sessions at the Spotlight Rooms on social media.
“Any unique photo put up on social media, either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, with the hashtag ‘Visit Lethbridge’ will be entered to win a prize of two hotel nights at a hotel of their choice that is part of the Lethbridge Lodging Association, a $100 gift certificate to Park Place Mall and a $100 gift certificate to one of five restaurants in the city,” said Heck.
In keeping with COVID-19 pandemic protocol, only six people will be allowed in the rooms at one time.
“Each hotel has purchased a disinfecting sprayer,” said Heck. “So after the 20 minutes the staff will spray everything.”
The rooms are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day and can be booked through the http://www.visitlethbridge.com website.
The contest runs until Jan. 15, but Heck said there is talk of changing the rooms every few months and bringing in new themes.
