A British Columbia man arrested during a drug bust in Lethbridge earlier this week has been released from custody.
Michael Kebede Abate was released on several conditions and $5,000 cash bail following a brief hearing Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court. He was ordered to live at a specific address in Burnaby, B.C., obey a curfew at that residence from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day, report weekly by phone to the Lethbridge Police Service, abstain from possessing weapons and from consuming alcohol and drugs, avoid contact with several individuals, and stay out of Lethbridge except to attend court or meet with his lawyer.
Abate is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000.
He was arrested Monday following a month-long investigation in November by the LPS priority crimes unit and crime suppression team.
The matter returns to court Jan. 7 to allow time for Calgary lawyer Robin McIntyre to receive disclosure from the Crown’s office.
