Lethbridge College has announced Juno-nominated Armond Duck Chief to be the headlining musician for their virtual holiday celebration.

Lethbridge College’s Indigenous Services team will be bringing the community together through this free virtual event on Dec. 9, which will highlight the Juno-nominated, Lethbridge College Alumni Duck Chief.

The End of Semester Virtual Gathering and Holiday Celebration will be hosted on Zoom by Indigenous Services, and is open to everyone to join. The party is a chance for attendees to connect with each other, the Indigenous Services team and the college’s Elders to celebrate the end of the fall semester.

“We understand that 2020 has been a trying year, both academically and personally, and we commend our students for their dedication, perseverance and resiliency,” says Shanda Webber, Indigenous Services Manager. “In most years, we would be getting ready for our annual Christmas Feast and Poiskinnaaksin (Red Ochre Ceremony), a time for gathering and renewal; but since that isn’t possible this year, we wanted to do something special for our students and province a sense of belonging and connection even though through a virtual setting. It will be great to have Armond join in for some holiday entertainment and hopefully spark some joy as we enter the holiday season.”

Duck Chief is a singer-songwriter and member of the Siksika Nation. He graduated from the college’s Business Administration – Management program in 2015, and was nominated for a Juno Award for Aboriginal Album of the Year in 2016, and is also a multi-time winner at the Indigenous Music Awards. A frequent performer at Lethbridge College events, he is currently a member of the Siksika Nation Chief and Council.

All Indigenous Lethbridge College students who register for and attend the event will be registered to win $50 holiday hampers, which include food or fuel gift cards.

The virtual portal for the End of Semester Virtual Gathering and Holiday Celebration will open at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and the formal program begins at 6 p.m.. Anyone interested in attending can register online at lethbridgecollege.zoom.us.
