GoFundMe pages set up for family who lost farm and home in wildfire

Two separate GoFundMe pages have been set for a Southern Alberta family who lost their farm and their home in last weekend’s wildfires.
Abram and Lisa Friesen, along with their four children, were left homeless after 120 km/ hour winds drove flames through their property near Claresholm last Sunday.
One page, set up by members of the Immanuel Christian Schools community, had already raised about $16,000 by late Thursday afternoon. The other, set up by a family member in Taber, had raised about $5,500.
Altogether four homes were lost in last Sunday’s blazes near Claresholm and Fort Macleod, which initial reports suggested burned 6,500 hectares of farmland and grasslands. An update provided by the MD of Willow Creek on Thursday revised the number to 4,800 hectares.
The same update stated that the fires had also destroyed 30 other structures alongside fencing and other municipal infrastructure.
According to MD of Willow Creek Fire Chief Kelly Starling the cause of the fires is still under investigation.
