Weekend wildfire burns near Cottonwood Park

Fire Crews responded to report of wildland fire near Cottonwood Park on the city’s westside in the early morning hours on Sunday. Three stations with eight units, along with the assistance of the Coaldale, Coalhurst and Picture Butte Fire services responded to the large grass fire, which also included several buildings and hay stacks a blaze. The City says extreme hot weather over the past week has made grass conditions very dry, causing the fire to spread quickly. One firefighter was transported to hospital and later released. Damage estimates were not available as the fire was still under investigation.
