The Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod will be host Saturday to the Canadian premiere of a Hollywood movie.
The historic theatre plays a prominent role in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which filmed scenes in the town in the summer of 2019.
To mark the occasion a street festival will start at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street for ticket holders who will get a chance to watch the first showing of the film. Those tickets sold out in 45 minutes.
Ghostbusters fan clubs from Calgary and Edmonton will be setting up displays of Ghostbusters vehicles and paraphernalia at the festival and some merchandise will be available for sale.
The BC. Delorean Ecto-1 will also make a special appearance at the Empress.
The public will be invited to join the fun at 8 p.m. for hot chocolate, s’mores and selfies with props, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man – if weather permits – and Slimer.
People can get their photo taken blasting The Empress for $5.
A special brew has been developed for the event, courtesy of Fort Macleod’s Stronghold Brewing Company. As an ode to Slimer, the brewer has developed the Proton Pak, a green light beer loaded with pink guava and bursting with tropical flavour. This will be served in the VIP tent for ticket holders, as well as to the public in the brewery after 8 p.m..
Shaun Johnston, who plays Jack Bartlett on the CBC drama “Heartland” will be in town for the special screening.
