The Society of Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library will be hosting a mega book sale once again, after nearly two years.
The sale will take place at the Main Branch downtown this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 30 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
“The Society of Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library is trying to help the Library offer the best programs and services of any library in a community of comparable size in Canada,” said Barbara Gibson, director of the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library Booktique.
The society has a Booktique that they operate at both library branches and sell used books, CDs, DVDs and games.
“During the pandemic, up until about November (2021), the booktique was closed down, the library was closed for a period of time as well, and during that time they culled their collection,” said Gibson.
She explained that when this happens the old materials from both library branches get released to the public for sale at the booktiques. And since they have not been able to sale them for almost two years, they came up with a mega sale.
The sale will be a bag sale. The price of a grocery shopping bag of books is $5 and the same price for 10 DVDs. Customers are asked to bring their own shopping bags and oversized bags will be priced accordingly.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions on capacity limits, shoppers are strongly encouraged to book their shopping time free of charge on Eventbrite.
Saturday will be open to ticket holders only and on Sunday, individuals with Eventbrite tickets will be able to enter the sale rooms on a priority basis with any remaining space available to walk-in customers.
Bookings are generally for one hour with time periods starting and ending on the hour.
“We’ve got the adult books are going to be in the theatre gallery, we’ve got children’s books in the community meeting room and we have our own friends room on the same level as a theatre gallery and we’re going to have our CD’s DVD’s and what not in that area,” said Gibson.
She said the event is “sold out” for Saturday but there is plenty of spaces available on Sunday.
Gibson said there is no need to worry about finding materials that are for sale, even on Sunday, as they will be constantly re-stocking anything and everything whenever needed.
“Saturday the sale will be finished by 4, so we’ve got another hour that we can add stock to the tables. So we will be continually stocking the sale,” said Gibson.
