The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation held their 12th Annual ‘Care from the Heart Day’ Radiothon on Thursday and raised over $298,000.
“We had a goal to raise $275,000 during the 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. radiothon yesterday and by 4:00 o’clock yesterday (Thursday) we exceeded that goal. And this morning following the event we’re sitting just under $300,000,” said Shonna Lamb, development officer with the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation.
During the radiothon, six local radio stations broadcasted live from their respective stations, sharing stories, speaking with members of the hospital and encouraging listeners to donate.
Lamb said they are excited, thankful and overwhelmed by the amount of community support they were fortunate to receive.
“We’ve been really well supported by the community over the past many years, like a decade, but specifically in the last couple of years we’ve been really well supported,” said Lamb.
She said all donations added up, from individual donations of $5, $10, $20 to corporate challenges and the companies that got involved with their staff.
“In this case it added up to be almost $300,000,” said Lamb.
Lamb said it all goes back directly into Chinook Regional Hospital.
“In an average year we’ll fund 20 to 40 projects, and this could be equipment, this could be programs. Our aim is to use our donors’ money, our donors’ donations in ways that allow the hospital to provide the highest quality care to the citizens of southern Alberta,” said Lamb.
She said sometimes that means their investments are felt in departments like surgery, or sometimes in addictions and mental health, pediatrics or NICU, or Indigenous health.
“What we’re able to do when we’re so well supported, we can assist with the priority projects that need funding in various areas, so there’s not an area of the hospital that hasn’t been touched by donors’ donations in some way,” said Lamb.
Anyone interested in donating to the radiothon event, can do so until the end of the month online at http://www.crhfoundation.ca or by calling the CRH foundation at (403) 388-6001.
