After a two-year hiatus because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Green Acres Foundation on Friday staged its fund-raising lunch for Westminster Elementary School.
The annual Beef on a Bun lunch supports the Sue Labuhn Memorial Library at the school. Labuhn was a former Green Acres employee and avid reader and volunteer at the school, said Green Acres facilities manager Brent Mead Friday.
The response to the lunch this year has been “outstanding,” said Mead.
“We set a target of 600 and we had over 700 in pre-orders alone,” said Mead.
Green Acres is a non-profit housing body which provides affordable housing to seniors in several southern Alberta communities including Lethbridge, Lethbridge Country, Coaldale, Coalhurst, Nobleford, Picture Butte and Barons.
It’s been in operation since 1960 and celebrated its 62nd anniversary on April 11. The foundation has more than 400 employees and 22 different sites which provide housing to thousands. Different levels of care include apartments for those who are still independent as well as lodges and facilities that offer 24-hour care.
