After declaring an Agricultural Disaster earlier this month due to drought in the Municipal District of Willow Creek, Chief administrative officer Derrick Krizsan said that even though the recent rains added some needed moisture, the declaration remains in place.
“There’s been no new information pertaining to council’s thoughts on the current status. I know that there are continuing concerns about foreign supply for ranchers but as of now there is no change to the current declaration of agricultural disaster,” said Krizsan.
He said that although they are very encouraged by the moisture, which has later seeded crops looking very good, some of the earlier crops’ yields will be reduced.
“But we’re very encouraged by the moisture we received recently,” said Krizsan.
He added that council continues to monitor the current situation.
In addition to the M.D. of Willow Creek, a state of agricultural disaster was also declared in Cypress County and the County of Forty Mile earlier this month.
