Some days can be a walk in the park – even for a mayor.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen on Thursday morning, with dogs on leash, kicked off his first “Move with the Mayor” monthly program at Henderson Lake.

Each month, the mayor will select a city park for a walk with community members to learn about that particular outdoor space.

“We want to hit every single park,” said the mayor.

It’s a chance to get people out which hasn’t been possible because of COVID.

The inaugural walk on a hot, windy Thursday attracted a small group who did a fast-paced stroll around the lake.

On the walks, residents will learn some things about the spaces here. City staff are part of the walks to fill in residents about future plans for parks, as well as well as the things Lethbridge has in its parks.

The amount of green space here is among the largest per capita in Canada.

I like the idea . . . I know your schedule is busy, but this is one way to meet more of the public.
Are the dogs walking you or are you walking the dogs? ๐Ÿ˜€
Is that gentleman in the blue shirt on the right of pic walking a goat? Or is that a new breed of dog that mows the grass as well? ๐Ÿ˜€
Great idea? I remember a retired Navy Seal and pro-westler, Jesse Ventura, who became Minnesota Governor and used to have a radio show called ‘lunch with the Governor’, accepting calls from the public while answering them. It was interesting and a way people had a better chance to communicate their concerns when it was impossible to do so in person and I often listened to it when I was in the area.
I wish you well!
