New West Theatre is bringing back its summer show for the first time since 2019 by rocking through the decades from 1950s to the present at the Yates Memorial Theatre Aug.10 to Aug. 27.

Their new production “Decades” explores top rock hits through live music performance and comedy.

“It is a celebration of all things evocative of the decades we love from the 50s until the 2000s, so you’re going to see a big fashion parade of the decades, as well as music and some impersonations,” said “Decades” director Kathy Zaborsky.

She said it is basically a big old party.

“It’s been a blast, it’s great to be back in the Yates theatre for a summer show and it’s a blast from the past of course, just fun being back together, the whole cast together,” said actor Scott Carpenter.

Zaborsky explained the show was put together in a matter of three weeks from creation to rehearsals.

“I started my homework in May and June to prep for the show and get all the music ready, and then yeah we’ve been just rehearsing for a couple weeks here and we’re almost ready to go,” said Zaborsky.

She said she compiled a list of over 500 songs while selecting those that made it into the show.

“The best songs from every decade and I went to a lot of opinions, I ask people that I knew, and I whittled it down. I found what I thought were the best songs for the wonderful cast that I have,” said Zaborsky.

She added that the material for the show contains all new songs, as well as new comedy.

“A lot of new surprises,” said Zaborsky.

When it comes to choosing her favourite song to play, Zaborsky had a hard time choosing one but said she enjoys playing Tears of a Clown.

“One of my favourites is Erica Hunt singing the Sia song Chandelier, it is so amazing but then it also is a comedy number,” said Carpenter.

Decades is a family show, intended for audiences of all ages.

“I would say from age 0 to 110,” said Zaborsky.
