The Lethbridge Corn Maze held its annual fundraiser on Monday and according to the owner it’s their best year yet.

This year’s admissions proceeds from the Thanksgiving fundraise are going to the Samaritan’s Purse for Ukraine relief and as of 3 p.m. over $9,400 and counting was raised.

“Every year from the beginning 23 years ago on every Thanksgiving we’ve been doing fundraisers for different organizations,” said Theo Slingerland, Corn Maze owner and operator.

“And this year we chose Samaritan’s Purse with the relief that they do in the Ukraine to help medical and food and anything else that they are using there. One of our family members was over in the Ukraine in the spring for a little while with Samaritan’s Purse, so that’s why we chose them.”

The fundraised is important to Slingerland because its shows appreciation and gives  thanks to the people who come out and share with people that have less.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise between $5,000 and $10,000.

The fundraiser has helped organizations such as the food bank, Missionary friends in Mexico and Madagascar, fire department and Streets Alive to name a few.

“We started very slow with heat and then in the fall everything picked up and lots of people have come out,” said Slingerland, on the year.

New additions include the zip line and pallet maze on top of the tractor rides, petting zoo and pumpkin picking.

The Corn Maze is open until Oct.29 and then will reopen in December for Christmas on the Farm.
