Nord-Bridge Senior Centre is once again hosting their annual Nord-Bridge Craft Sale this weekend after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s open to anyone in the community, you don’t have to be a senior,” said Ashley Kern, program coordinator at Nord-Bridge.

She said they will have over 24 vendors for people to support Nord-Bridge and all proceeds will go back to senior recreation programming.

After a two year hiatus, what used to be the annual craft and bake sale is coming back as a craft sale only due to health concerns stemming from the recent pandemic.

“Because of COVID we kind of held off on the bake sale side of it, and we’re just doing the crafts this time around. Next year we’ll try and get back into it again and do a craft and bake sale,” said Kern.

She said some of the vendors are seniors that have had a place in the sale before, but there is also a lot of outside vendors.

“It’s a mix of both, so some of them have always had items in our craft sale in years past and then now we’re also getting ones from the community, so they don’t necessarily have to be a senior to be a vendor in the craft sale,” said Kern.

She said it is basically a good fundraiser for Nord-Bridge and to show different skills of crafters in the community.

The craft sale will take place in the Nord-Bridge Multi-Purpose Hall and those attending are asked to enter through the NE doors.

The sale will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Another event coming up soon at Nord-Bridge is the 22nd annual Operation Sock it to ‘Em, where Nord-Bridge in partnership with various schools across Lethbridge and rural schools will be collecting new socks from the community, and all proceeds will support those less fortunate such as the Lethbridge Shelter, Harbour House, Woods Homes, and Streets Alive.

“We basically collect socks at Nord-Bridge as well as at various schools throughout Lethbridge and rural areas, that’ll be a place as well that you can drop off brand new socks,” said Kern.

She said schools in the Lethbridge School District, the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division and Palliser Regional School Division will be collecting new socks from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15.

“On the 15th we’re going to organize, get them all together here at Nord-Bridge, and then we’re going to distribute the new socks out to the local charities and those less fortunate,” said Kern.

She said they will be collecting all types of sock in all sizes from youth to seniors, as well as orthopaedic socks. Cash donations are also being accepted for Nord-Bridge to purchase socks.
