Company to take next step in proceedings

A southern Alberta company accused of contravening terms and conditions of its licence is expected to take a step when it returns to court in the new year.

The company, Aqua Properties of Calgary, as well as its representative Robert Rettie, had their charges addressed Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court, where an agent for their lawyer said Rettie and the corporation will either resolve the charges or set a date for trial.

Aqua and Rettie were charged in August and are accused of providing false or misleading information to Alberta Environment and Parks. The government ministry alleges the offences occurred at or near Champion between August 31, 2020, and June 1, 2022.

The corporation is facing nine charges, seven of them for contravening terms or conditions of a licence under the Water Act, and one charge each, also under the Water Act, for providing false or misleading information and failing to provide information, data, or records as required.

Rettie faces a single charge under the Act for providing false or misleading information. The offences are subject to a fine of up to $50,000 for individuals or up to $500,000 for a corporation.

Following Tuesday’s brief hearing the matter was adjourned to Jan. 9.
