Bureaucratic housekeeping to assist with RCMP recruitment of experience officers

The National Police Federation (NPF) and the RCMP have recently signed an important agreement that will pave the way for many experienced police officers to join the RCMP.
President of the NPF, Brian Sauvé, said that when the NPF negotiated their first collective agreement with the government of Canada, there was an oversight with respect to experienced police officers who may want to join the RCMP.
“That oversight being the fact that a police officer with a 10 year experience came into the RCMP, they would not have those 10 years of experience recognized by the RCMP for the amount of holidays they get every year,” said Sauvé.
He said the NPF identified that as a challenge as well as the Commissioner and they both brought forward their concerns to the government of Canada which resulted in this memorandum of agreement they recently signed.
“I think this particular memorandum of agreement will make it easier for the RCMP to recruit experienced police officers from other services, who may have wanted to join the RCMP,” said Sauvé.
This agreement recognizes experienced police officers from federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, Indigenous, and military policing who wish to join the RCMP.
Sauvé said multiple RCMP locations across Canada have been engaged in recruitment efforts and they have encountered a little bit of a challenge in recent years. And they hope this memorandum of agreement helps with those challenges.
