Conservative MP for Lethbridge Rachael Thomas has launched the application process for her 2023-24 youth advisory board.
The board is an opportunity for youth aged 16 to 24 who live within the Lethbridge riding, which includes the County of Lethbridge.
A press release states that applicants don’t need to be experts in politics – they just need to be curious and committed to learning.
“This is my seventh year of hosting a Youth Advisory Board ad I love it. By giving young people a seat at the table, I hope to communicate that their participation is valuable. I want them to be empowered to use their voices and become increasingly engaged in the federal political process,” said Thomas in the release.
The board will meet once a month during which time members will have the opportunity to share their perspectives and offer advice on federal policy and legislative issues.
The agenda is determined by the board members and each will have a chance to grow their leadership abilities by chairing a meeting.
“It’s been exciting to watch the members grow in confidence and leadership. They’re keen to offer their perspective and ask courageous questions. We’ve had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics including mental health, homelessness, addiction, the government’s COVID response, natural resource development, environmental policy, agriculture, freedom of speech, firearms and many others,” added the MP.
Those who complete a term on the board will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of commendation. Students are also encouraged to seek school credit for participating in the program.
Interested youth can find an application at http://www.RachaelThomas.ca. The deadline for submissions is March 10.
