With the writ dropping Monday to announce a provincial election in May, election forums are picking up steam.

Several are planned in the city in coming weeks including one being hosted by Volunteer Lethbridge May 4 at the Galt Museum from 1 until 4:30 p.m.

“The non-profit sector is in trouble… everywhere. The local community has talked to Volunteer Lethbridge about escalating costs and service demand, reduced volunteerism and reduced funding security. Our local representatives must commit to supporting the sector before more valuable services are lost, at a greater cost to government and taxpayers,” says Amanda Jensen of Volunteer Lethbridge in a press release.

The forum will be staged specifically to address the needs of the non-profit sector in Alberta.

Scheduled attendees include the UCP and NDP nominees in both Lethbridge ridings as well as the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations and other stakeholders.

The Lethbridge Public Library will host two forums on May 8 and 9. Lethbridge East candidates will be facing the public in the first and Lethbridge West hopefuls in the second.

Forums run from 6 until 8 p.m. on both days.

The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce will stage two one-hour forums on May 16 at the Enmax Centre. The first for Lethbridge West candidates starts at 5:30 p.m. and the second for Lethbridge East nominees begins at 7 p.m.
