Fatal collision case back to court next month

 The case of a 33-year-old Lethbridge woman charged in connection with a pedestrian collision where a male was killed, and a female sustained critical injuries was in Lethbridge provincial court Thursday.

 Lethbridge lawyer Greg White appeared as agent for Lethbridge Lawyer Justin Dean who is the designated council for Bobbi Raquel Whillans, to ask for one more adjournment to acquire additional disclosure.

 Whillans is charged with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

 The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 17at approximately 3 p.m. Lethbridge Police responded to the intersection of 26 Avenue and 28 Street North. EMS were already on scene and a 66-year-old male was declared deceased. A 62-year-old female was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Calgary by STARS.

 Investigation determined a GMC truck was travelling eastbound on 26 Avenue North and proceeded to make a northbound turn onto 28 Street North striking the pedestrians as they crossed in the crosswalk. The driver immediately stopped and called 911. 

 The Crown is proceeding by way of indictment in relation to the outstanding allegation of dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

 During his first appearance as Whillans’ council, Dean asked for a lengthy adjournment to be able to review disclosure.

 The mattered was adjourned to August 10 at 9:30 a.m.
