Four Chinook High School football players have been arrested by Lethbridge Police Services in response to the sexual assault of a 16-year-old that police say occurred after school hours on Oct. 3.
The suspects, all males under the age of 18, are teammates of the victim. Police say the event occurred in a locker room at the school.
Three of the suspects were taken into custody at the high school with the fourth apprehended at the police station. Charges are pending.
Last Wednesday, forensic evidence was collected at the scene. Activities related to the football program have been suspended indefinitely to accommodate the investigation. A statement released by the Lethbridge School Division last week states, “further decisions regarding football activities will be made pending the outcome of the investigation.”
School officials are assuring students and parents that the high school remains a safe place for support is being offered by the Chinook Sexual Assault Centre to those affected by the incident.
“Chinook continues to make all decisions based on the social, emotional, physical, academic and spiritual growth of its students,” says the Lethbridge School Division.
