City Hall Christmas tree gets lit

The City of Lethbridge held its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at City Hall Monday morning to kick off the holiday season.

Deputy mayor Mark Campbell lit the tree in the City Hall foyer in celebration of the Christmas season. Campbell acted on behalf of mayor Blaine Hyggen and thanked the staff who decorated the City Hall for the festive season.

“I’m filling in for Mayor Hyggen who sends his regrets today. It’s truly my honor to officially plug in this year’s great Christmas tree. And on behalf of the City of Lethbridge and city council, I’d like to thank the City staff who volunteered to come here on the weekend to decorate the city hall foyer looks absolutely fantastic, always looks great and certainly promotes a welcoming environment,” said Campbell.

Campbell encouraged community members to be mindful of those in need and supportive of others along with organizations such as the food banks.

“As we approach the holiday season. I’d also like to encourage everyone to think about those in need. We know our food banks need our support. Many other great charities and organizations will also be in need this season. So please take a look for information and help if you can so we can ensure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season,” he said.

Campbell described the donation bins for the Christmas Hope campaign currently underway and further announcements to come this season from the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ.

“I’d also like to encourage people to think and shop local and support our array of amazing local businesses right across the city,” Campbell said.

Campbell excitingly did a countdown just before officially lighting the tree.

“This is the dramatic moment that we’ve all been waiting for. On the count of three we’re gonna like this beautiful Christmas tree,” announced Campbell who activating the lights with a remote control.
