By Steffanie Costigan - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on December 21, 2023.

Nothing brings the community together more than community activities, especially Christmas activities. As Christmas nears, there are fewer events happening in the city.

Today there is free Christmas family yoga happening at Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre in the multi-purpose hall from 11 a.m. to noon. it is encouraged to bring your own mat, bottle of water and comfortable clothes.

Wellness coordinator and outreach for Nord-Bridge Melanie Hillaby said the event is put on every year and the pleasant interaction it is for all ages.

“The Christmas family yoga event we do every year, the last couple years to get family visiting and our members together for a place to go. Just to stretch out and participate in activity.”

The event is usually held between Christmas and New Year’s but this year, it’s a little earlier.

“Kids can come children of all ages, uncles, aunts, friends, whoever they can pull in. And then we just do a modified chair mat yoga, and then we have door prizes at the end. And it’s just a basically a nice visit an interaction,” said Hillaby.

Hillaby added the yoga event is not an intense workout but rather for fun.

“They just have to work at their own pace and modify whatever they need, as I will modify a lot of the movements for them. And just to have fun. It’s nothing, you know, intense or to be worried about.”

Other upcoming Christmas activity includes a alive outdoor performance of the ntivity put on by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints which runs from Friday to Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at 4105 Forestry Avenue South.

On Saturday the Filipino Canadian Association Lethbridge Alberta (FCALA) will be hosting at the Sandman, 320 Scenic Drive South starting at 5 p.m. a Christmas gala will be held with food and entertainment tickets for adults are $35, children tickets are $20 and kids from 6 to 12 months are free.
