Inaugural Easter egg hunt a hit

More than 100 people hoppity hopped around Kinsman Park to find Easter eggs during the inaugural London Road Neighbourhood Association Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday afternoon.

“I must admit we’re a little overwhelmed with the turnout which is amazing,” said Jessica Joss, association board member.

“So it’s hard to predict obviously on the first annual and the weather was a bit uncertain. So we’re just ecstatic with the turnout.”

The egg hunt had a neat twist to it as the kids had to hide the eggs all around the park before going out.

“Obviously we wanted to make sure that we didn’t have anything that pets that use the park could get into and have a bad result from,” said Joss.

“We didn’t want a whole bunch of food and stuff hidden in the park before we were ready to search for it. So we actually hid plastic eggs. We broke into two teams, had one team hide in a different quadrant and then we switched, and then in the quadrant that you didn’t hide for, you looked for. So we just wanted to add that extra dimension to both keep pets safe and to keep kids entertained.”

One rule was not burying any eggs into the snow.

The plan is to make the hunt an annual event.

“It’s interesting because a lot of the events that were annual events that we did, really got interrupted by COVID,” said Joss.

“So one of the things that we’re really trying to do is to reactivate some of that community engagement, get people

together again and really foster that community.”

Helen Connolly was with her family and unfortunately while they couldn’t find any eggs, they still had a fun time.

“They had brightly coloured plastic eggs. So I think they did show up quite well but maybe, I don’t know, we just weren’t quick enough,” said Connolly when asked about trying to find eggs in the snow.

Attendees did get candy regardless of if they found an egg or not.

“It’s been awesome, clearly a big success,” said Helen Connolly, who was with her family.

“I think they got a lot more people than they were counting on. So yeah, it’s nice to see everyone out.”

Chris Marshall and his family had lots of fun and they enjoyed it.

“Yeah the kids really liked hiding them, ” said Marshall.

“I think they liked hiding them more than finding them.”
