Accused in assault with shovel and bat preparing to stand trial

Two of three Lethbridge people charged in connection to an assault with a shovel and baseball bat earlier this year are planning to stand trial.
Tiffany Joy Hood, 45, and Jyi Mickell Trotter, 44, have pleaded not guilty to several criminal charges and elected to be tried by Alberta Court of Justice. A third accused, Jocko Slade Trotter, 36, failed to attend a recent court hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
At about 8 p.m.on March 26 police responded to a report of a group of people fighting in the backyard of a residence in the 1000 block of 12 Street South. Officers found an injured 35-year-old man in the alley, and he was transported to hospital by EMS with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
People inside the home refused to exit and police obtained and executed a warrant to enter. Six people were taken into custody without incident and during a search police seized a shovel and baseball bat they believe was used in the assault.
Hood and Jocko Trotter are charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Jyi Trotter faces the same charges plus two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
A 29-year-old woman in the home was charged with matters unrelated to the assault, and two other women were released without charges.
The matter is scheduled to return to court on June 28 to set trial dates.
