A former player in both the Alberta Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League will be hosting a hockey camp for 16-21 year olds at the Cavendish Farms Centre on Aug. 2-4.
Brody Tallman plays defence for the MacEwan University Griffins, but his roots started in Lethbridge. Tallman says he created the camp as a means to give back to those who have helped him.
“The hockey camp is just, for me, a way to give back in a way for anyone who’s ever helped me. I’m kind of paying forward by doing the same, giving back to my community,” said Tallman.
Tallman was drafted by the Portland Winterhawks in 2018 and most recently was the captain of the Canmore Eagles.
Tallman has embraced his Indigenous roots, saying he has many role models to look up to and hopes to be one for the next generation.
“I have a lot of role models to look up to. Wacey Rabbit has been a big role model of mine. We stay, close and just being proud of who you are and embracing my indigenous roots. It’s something that I take really big pride in. Like I said lots of role models and just kind of following in their footsteps and keep doing what I’m doing,” said Tallman.
The hockey camp will include dryland trainings in the morning coached by Tallman’s uncle, Tysun Tallman, who is a personal trainer, followed by on-ice training in the afternoon from Brody Tallman.
Tallman hopes this will help get the kids legs moving before the season starts.
“I just want kids to get back into the swing of things. I know a lot of the kids and players, they don’t have access to the ice during the summer. So just a fun camp to get the legs moving, the lungs going again and hands going. It’ll be fun,” said Tallman.
Registration is open for up to 20 players and 4 goalies until July 31 at noon.
