John Middleton-Hope has been chosen as the UCP candidate in the riding of Lethbridge West.
The Lethbridge West UCP constituency held the vote on Monday at the Lethbridge Public Library, with members nominating Middleton-Hope to face the NDP’s Rob Miyashiro in a Lethbridge West byelection for the seat vacated by NDP MLA Shannon Phillips this summer.
Premier Danielle Smith has until Jan. 1 to announce a byelection.
Middleton-Hope says he was informed he won with 53 per cent on the first ballot over fellow potential candidates Shauna Gruninger and Erin Leclerc.
Middleton-Hope has a long career in law enforcement, leadership, and municipal politics, presently serving on Lethbridge city council.
The Herald will have additional coverage as the constituency association has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.

Congratulations John! You and your solid reputation, your education, experience, dedication are what we can look forward to as you being our Lethbridge West MLA.
The simple fact that you have, and continue to actually live in the West Lethbridge riding is so important. You know our community, you support our community, this paramount over the NDP offering of Mr. Miyashiro, who resides somewhere in the Lethbridge East riding.
Mr Miyashiro was at best, a weak and poor City Councillor, and a documented “BULLY” while he sat on City Council. He (Miyashiro) has changed political stripes in attempt to glean a political position both Federally and Provincially and has failed each time… Mr. Middleton-Hope will soon be delivering you yet another defeat Mr. Miyashiro, sorry (not sorry) about that!
