March 28, 1951- Stratford Upon Avon, England September 14, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Barbara Jean Ablethorpe, beloved wife of Leonard Ablethorpe of Frank, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the age of 62 years.
Nothing was more important to Barbara than family and friends. She was attentive, understanding and always put others before herself. She will be missed by anyone who was blessed to know her.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Len; daughters and sons-in-law, Odette and Jason Brown, Emma and Jarrod Babiuk, Erin Ablethorpe and Holly Ablethorpe; three grandchildren, Parker Brown, Lilla Brown and Charlotte Babiuk; her mother Daisy French; and three brothers and sister-in-laws, Paul and Vicky Proffitt, Robert and Marcia Proffitt and Stephen French. She was predeceased by her father Lenoard Proffitt.

ALEXANDER “ALEX” PLYTKA
of Vulcan, passed away September 16, 2013 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 82 years.
Alex was born in Bellevue, AB, to parents Peter and Rose Plytka. After spending his youth in the Crowsnest Pass, he later moved to the family farm in the Alston district at Vulcan, AB with his parents and brother Steve.
Alex enjoyed visiting with his many friends and neighbors, always greeting them with a joyous smile.
Alex is survived by his faithful brother Steve, sister Mary Mazur and twelve nieces and nephews and their families. Alex was pre -deceased by his parents, sisters Sophie Olson, Helen Welechuk, Nancy Laforme and brother Joe Czak.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be held September 23, 2013 at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan Victory Family Church, with Pastor Dale Wright officiating.

Darlene Sabey Proctor
February 1 1927 – September 16 2013
Darlene Sabey Proctor, loving wife and beloved sweetheart of Philip F. Proctor of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on Sept 16, 2013 at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her eight children: Ronald, Kathryn (Ryan Cameron), Blair (Priscilla), Jane (Jim Sutherland), Murray (Brenda), Diane (Mike Kenney), Mark (Anita Kincaide), and David (Carrie), 21 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Darlene was born February 1, 1927 to Evan Lloyd Sabey and Theta Rich Sabey in her parent’s home outside of Magrath, Alberta. She was the fifth of six children and is survived by her brother Blair (Margaret) of Magrath, AB, and her sister Beryl Bectell of Cardston, AB.
Her life was defined by her faith in Jesus Christ and her testimony of His restored gospel as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The family sends our deepest thanks to all the dedicated staff at the University of Alberta Hospital Stroke Unit and St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
The memorial service for Darlene will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23 at the Riverbend Stake Centre of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14325-53 Avenue Edmonton, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

GERRIT JAN WITHAGE
April 6, 1923 – Sept 17, 2013
With thanks to God for a life well lived, we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, GERRIT JAN (JOHN) WITHAGE.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hilda (Nauta) Withage; his children and grandchildren: Joyce (Henk) Thomas, Duane and Melanee; Marilyn (Neil Wismer); Donald (Kathy), Katelyn, Marcia, and his namesake Janessa; Michael (Pamela). He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Dena (John) Kooy. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Giduk and Gert Withage.
John was born on the family farm near Nobleford and lived and farmed there for 84 years. In 1947 he married Hilda Nauta and for the next 60 years they built their farm and their family. In 2007, John and Hilda moved to Regina to be near Don and his family, and the new Withage farm at Kronau.
A year later, when the Kronau farm was sold and everyone returned to southern Alberta, they moved to The View in Lethbridge. They enjoyed relaxing in their sunny apartment, and regular trips to Tim Horton’s.
John lived a rich and fulfilling life, made possible by a strong faith, a caring and supportive wife, and his family who made it possible for him to remain involved in his beloved occupation of farming all his life.
We will miss his cheerful smile, and his great ability to look forward. We were truly blessed by him.
A memorial service will be held at the MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 – McGill Blvd. West, Lethbridge on Saturday, September 21st at 2:00 P.M.

MORRIS GEORGE IRVINE,
born May 8, 1923 in Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2013.
He is survived by his loving wife Vimy, sons Tom (Terry), Moe, and George (Karen); 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Throughout his life he was an avid weightlifter and supporter of the YMCA. He was a veteran and Legion member for over 60 years. In retirement he golfed, curled and enjoyed shuffleboard.

MACDONALD
MR. DOUGLAS EUGENE MACDONALD, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Doug is survived by his children; Colleen MacDonald of Winnipeg, Debbie and Graham Argyle of Lethbridge, Kim and Darren Roper of Lethbridge, Cheryle and Paul Driscoll of Lethbridge, Shawn and Susi MacDonald of Fort McLeod, as well as numerous Grandchildren.
Predeceased by his loving wife Kathryn MacDonald in 2005.
Grandpa “Mac” will always be remembered as “Stoneface” the grand kids spent countless hours trying to get him to crack a smile.

MADELINE (MANDA) LUKENDA
November 23, 1921 – September 17, 2013
“The Lord Is My Shepherd; I shall not want”. Psalm 23
MRS. MADELINE LUKENDA, beloved wife of the late Mr. Steve Lukenda, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the age of 91 years.
Madeline was born in Sipovaca Hercegovina to Jure and Jurka Bebek. Madeline had 2 brothers Nikola (Nick) predeceased (Iva) Mate (Mike) predeceased (Frieda) and sisters Andra (Andrea) (Rudy) predeceased Milka (Millie)(Ivan) predeceased.
Jure came to Canada in 1928 alone to earn enough money to be able to bring his family to Canada 9 years later in 1937. There were many hard times but a strong faith and with much hard work they persevered. In 1941 Madeline and Steve married in Coalhurst and in 1942 began farming near Picture Butte, this is where the Lukenda Family began with Ivan, Walter (Maryanne) Millie (Tom) Stanley predeceased (Irene) Brian (Lana) predeceased.
In 1969 Madeline and Steve moved to Lethbridge near Assumption Catholic Church where Madeline’s faith and devotion to the Lord, Church, and family blossomed into her life’s work. In 1985 Steve passed away. Madeline spent many hours at Assumption Church volunteering with C.W.L., retreats helping the poor and prayer for everyone so that they could find the unlimited peace and love she had for everyone.
Along the way Madeline touched so many people making new and very good lifelong friends that became part of her large family. Madeline’s other greatest love was her 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who all loved her cooking, baking and the special treatment that Baba gave them all. Every grandchild was her favorite and the more there were the better it was. In Baba’s last weeks it was those grandchildren that gave her the happiest moments
The family would like to thank everyone involved with Madeline’s care including Blue Sky Lodge, St. Michael’s Health Centre, Jackalyn, and all home care staff.
In Memory of Madeline & her love and devotion for the Rosary, please pray for the poor.

GAIL IRENE SPENCE of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Arvid Spence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 at the age of 70 years.
Gail was born to Ken and Edna Lougheed on September 23rd, 1942 in Dundurn, Saskatchewan.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Myers and Shelley Spence (Nicholas Pemberton). She will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Afton, Devon, William, Alexander and Rachel; her brother Ken Lougheed (Sandy); brothers-in-law Presley Spence (Winnie), Orville Spence (Betty) and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 21st from 2:00 to 4:00 pm during a gathering at her home (1706 – 23rd Ave. North).
