It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Carol Anne Day on August 02, 2014 at the age of 69. She is survived by her 4 loving children, her daughter Laurie Jones (Rob), her sons Darin Day (Tannis), Brent Day (Launa), and Chris Day, and her eight grandchildren Logan, Riley, Ramsey, Josilan, Keanan, Paige, Connor, and Shannon. Carol is also survived by her brother Jerry Tranter and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her son Dougie and her parents Jack and Alice Tranter. It was Carol¹s wish to have a private family service. We will miss you mom, but know you are in the loving arms of our dear Lord. Gabby leaves to mourn his passing his soul mate of 42 years Margaret ³Maggie² Devine; three children, Francis, Joseph (Dawn), and Patrick (Jodi); nine grand-children, Orin (Camilla), Tyrell, Colton, Talon, Andrew, Patrick, Patricia, Carson and Lamont; two great-grand children, Rayden and Ava; Brothers: Homer (Gloria), Allen, Bruno; Sisters: Edna, Alice (Bernie), Rena, Agnes (Johnny); Sisters-in-law: Rose (Dennis) Pard, Beatrice (Rick) Little Mustache, Gertrude Smith; Brothers-in-law: Gerald (Martha) Smith and Merle (Elizabeth) Smith; Special Brother Alphonse Red Crow and Special Uncle Jack Red Crow; Adopted children, Shawn Little Mustache, Edna Fairbrother, Ryan Smith, Glenda Pard, Muriel Provost, Kevin Many Grey Horses, Bradford Red Crow, Curtis Black Rabbit, Wesley Black Rabbit, Marty Black Rabbit, Sheldon Brewer, Jonathan Brewer, R.J First Rider, Cody Wells, Les Frank, Tasha Storm, and Grant Three Persons. Gabby was pre-deceased by his Paternal Grandparents Joe Devine and Holy Beaver Woman; Maternal Grandparents Francis Red Crow and Annie Red Crow; Father Mike Devine Sr.; Mother Mary Devine (Nee Red Crow); Sisters Dorothy Devine and Maryann Smith; brother Mike Devine Jr. Gabriel married his soul mate Margaret Smith on November 18, 1971 making their home in Bullhorn, Blood Reserve, followed by three children and grandchildren. He attended St. Mary¹s residential school til he signed up for the Canadian Army at the tender age of 16 leaving behind is parents¹ backs just so he wouldn¹t have to attend school anymore. He was stationed in the Patricia Regiment in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Gabby was a man of many talents: he was a cowboy back in the day he rode saddle bronc, bare back and bulls in his rodeo days; he also played on the St. Mary¹s Buffalo¹s hockey team as their goalie in the early 70¹s and on the Bullhorn Stampeder¹s football team. Gabby held many jobs: welder, Kainai recreation, Blood Tribe roads, St. Paul¹s Treatment Center, Red Crow College as maintenance man, and Kainai Industries. Gabby was a quiet man with few words, always had a helping hand when called upon. His nieces and nephews could depend on him for a cigarette. Gabby was also a go to man when a Blackfoot word was to be recalled, his traditions and culture were important to him. After his many walk abouts, Gabby would be greeted home with loving arms, a smile and stern lecture. Gabby was an attentive grandfather and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On a daily basis Gabby was surrounded by little ones either running, crawling or crying beside grandpa. He would then pick-up, sooth and send baby on its way. When at home, Gabby always had a baby in his arms to attend to. They loved him as much as he loved them. Gabby will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends that he made along his incredible journey. A Wake Service will be held at the Moses Lake Hall, Blood Reserve on Wednesday, August 6th from 7:00 p.m. continuing all night. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary¹s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Mary¹s Cemetery, Blood Reserve. Sharon Anne Smith Howells of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 at the age of 73 years. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her husband Chad Burdett Howells; son Corvil Howells of Calgary, AB; 5 daughters and their spouses, Sharalee Schneider of Phoenix, AZ, Shannalyn Kwiatek of Edmonton, AB, Suzanne Reitmeier of Red Deer, AB, Sharmane Wright of Raymond, AB and Sharese Mohlman of Springville, UT; 25 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren as well as her brother Lorne Smith of Lethbridge, AB. She was predeceased by her parents Orvil and Clara Smith; brother Earl Smith; sister Arvilla Pitcher and son Wade Howells. A memorial service for Sharon will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints (Bower Chapel), 3002 ­ 47 Avenue, Red Deer, AB on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 1:30 pm. MORKIN, John Michael ³Mike²
July 28, 1948 ­ August 3, 2014
The good ones leave too soon. John Michael passed away peacefully at the age of 66, after an eight month battle with cancer. He handled his circumstances gracefully, never angry or complaining and continued his caring for others. Mike is survived and sadly missed by his wife Karen; his father Tom; his siblings, Peggy (Bob), Bill (Margie), Tim (Aleili), and Barb (Todd). Mike is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Helen; sister-in-law Kerry; niece Ketsy; and his faithful walking buddy Roscoe. A man of great compassion, there was never a day when Mike did not have time for his family and friends and was always the first to offer help when needed. Mike wore many hats throughout his business life which included Seismic, Farming, Esso Agent with his brothers and his biggest passion, ranching. He dedicated his life to work and the care of all he knew. He had many interests over the years: fly fishing, trap shooting, 18 hour drives, craps, golf (because he liked being married), but his love of the land and the Porcupine Hills was lifelong. He now has time to practice his passion for team roping, to ensure to his headers, that it will not be just another good outing.
