Renny Wade Soup Traditional Blackfoot Name–

Ksiwawakaa’si (Spider) August 3, 1964 – March 23, 2015

Our loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, co-worker and friend; Renny (Ksiwawakaa’si),was called home on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the age of 50 years. Renny was born to Clotilda (nee Many Fingers) and the late Louis (Sonny) Soup on August 3, 1964, at the Blood Indian Hospital. He was raised on the Blood Reserve in various communities. Renny attended school at the Cardston Elementary School, and graduated high school at St. Mary’s High School on the Blood Reserve in 1983. During his high school days, he met the love of his life, Annette in 1980. They went on to get married in 1985. In 1994, he attended College in Edmonton to prepare for enrollment to SAIT Polytechnic. He completed his courses in Chemical Processing Engineering, commencing in 1996. That fall of 1996, Renny joined his wife, Annette, at the University of Montana, Missoula. There, he received a degree in Building Maintenance Engineering in 1998. He challenged the Montana Boiler’s Certification and was successful. Again, he challenged the Fourth Class Engineering of Alberta in 1998, becoming certified as one of only 2 members from the Blood Reserve with this authority. He was recently recertified with the New Fourth Class certificate in December, 2014. It was during his graduation year at the University of Montana Missoula, in 1998 that Renny caught the Powwow dancing bug while being a member of the planning committee for the Kyi-yo Powwow. This prompted him to make his own traditional outfit and the whole family went down to support him for his debut as a Traditional Dancer. From then on, he designed and did his own bead work for all his outfits with such precision and patience, resulting in unique and original work. Renny gained numerous friends and fellow competitors on the powwow trail. It was during his beginner dancing days that he met Kevin Costner at Morley’s annual powwow, being asked by his entourage to take a picture together. It was during the Eagle Shield’s era that he was instrumental in laying out the sod at the Red Crow powwow arbor, nurturing it, growing the grass in time for the Indian Days. He was a quiet person, but as soon as you mentioned the next powwow, his ears perked up wanting contacts and information. Renny travelled far into the states and through western and southern Canada attending powwows and meeting new friends and families. He made quite a name for himself, becoming one of the top Men’s Traditional dancers, winning many 1st places at the powwows’ he attended. Many of the friends he made at the powwows, took him as their powwow brother, as they all looked out for each other. Renny’s name will echo in future powwows as his spirit is remembered. Renny lived for his wife, Annette and three daughters; Nikki, Rebby and Jazmin. He taught his daughters many things, such as bead work, yard work and horse care, but the most important thing he taught them was to always try hard and put 100% effort into whatever they were doing. Remarks heard from his daughters were “We’ll always try hard because that’s what Dad wanted us to do”. Renny will leave a vacant seat at Nikki’s convocation this spring at the Lethbridge College and Rebby’s Native Honor Night and Graduation Ceremony at the Cardston High School, however, his Spirit will be present. He always encouraged his daughters to complete their education, taking a special interest in whatever they were involved in. He was especially looking forward to his 30th anniversary on June 1, 2015. Renny is survived by his wife Annette (nee Medicine Crane), daughters; Nikki, Rebby and Jazmin Soup. His mother Clotilda Soup, brothers; Rick (Marlene) and Shannon (Kelli) Soup, his aunties, Mable (Richard) Fox, Mary Pace, Virginia (Lester) Tailfeathers, Geri (Donny) Many Fingers, Annie (Rod) Many Fingers, Lorna (Tony) Black Water and Shirley Chief Moon. His uncles; Adrian (Geraldine) Many Fingers, Ivan (Verna) Many Fingers, his in-laws; Geraldine (Ike) Eagle Speaker. Numerous nephews’ nieces’ cousins’ colleagues and powwow acquaintances. He was predeceased by his father, Louis (Sonny) Soup, great grandparents Dick (Beth) Soop, his maternal grandparents, Frank and Kate Many Fingers, his paternal grandparents, Eddie Soup and Julia Morgan. His aunties Margaret (Albert) Many Fingers, Beatrice (Frank) Good Striker, Gwen (David) Healy, Mona Chief Moon, Ella Shot Both Sides, his nephew Cayley Soup, his uncles Franklin Many Fingers, Floyd Many Fingers, Morris Many Fingers, Albert Many Fingers, Leo Red Crow, Sam Red Crow, and Fredrick Red Crow, and brother in law Lindsay Medicine Crane.
