BLUMERS, EDWIN FREDERICK

Edwin passed away on March 25, 2015 at the age of 73 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Center in Lethbridge, AB after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Edwin was predeceased by his loving wife Maureen (nee Hoffman) and his parents August and Mildred Blumers. Edwin is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Diane and Howard Uphill (Olds, AB); Katherin and Darryl Reid (Drumheller, AB); and Kerri and Les Desserre (Coalhurst, AB); six grandchildren; Stephanie (Richard) Saunders; Mandy (Adam) Winter; Arthur Harrison; Krystyne (Mike) Sobiecki; Wyatt and Rowan Desserre and three great grandchildren; Emily Harrison, Tyson Winter, and Aurora Sobiecki. Ed is also remembered by his close friend Elaine May. Ed will be greatly missed by his sisters and brothers; Elizabeth (Leander) Hebig; Elsie (Pius) Houk; Marcella Frank; Geraldine Johnson; Doreen Blumers; Conrad Blumers; Allan Blumers; and Arthur (Goldie) Blumers. Ed is also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and friends. Ed was born Nov. 8, 1941 at St. Gregor, Sk. He enjoyed his career in construction at the Gardner Dam and worked there until its completion and as a crane operator in Saskatoon for Sterling Crane. After a brief move to Trail, B.C. the family moved to Fernie, B.C. where Ed worked as an Industrial First Aid Attendant and crane operator for Kaiser Resources in Sparwood. He later moved to Lethbridge and completed his career as a crane operator working for GetKate Construction. Ed will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He never tired of sharing stories of pride in his family. Ed was known for his kind and generous heart and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand (or a tool!) to anyone in need. He could often be found working in his lovely and bountiful garden, always sharing that bounty with others. His glowing smile and heart-felt bear hugs will be missed by all who knew him. Thank you to the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael’s Palliative Care, family and friends for your loving support and care. COR KORVER passed away peacefully at home in God’s way and in God’s time, at the age of 80 years. He was the beloved husband of Hennie for almost 50 years. He was a dear father and grandfather to Doug and Michelle and their children Erin and Joel, and Lori and Andy Diepenbroek and their children Doran and Nevan. Cor was preceded in death by a son, Paul (8) in 1981; a brother, Nick, in 2011; and a sister, Grace Maheux, in 1977. Surviving are his brothers Case (Winnie), Bill (Hilda), Arie (Bev), sister in law Ann Korver and many nieces and nephews; as well as the van’t Land family. A Memorial Service will be held at TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH, 1100-40th Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Hank Van der Woerd officiating. A Private Family Interment will precede the Memorial Service.

Grietje “Grace” de Graaf

1928 – 2015

Mrs. Grietje “Grace” de Graaf of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michaels Care Centre on March 29, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Grietje was born on March 20, 1928 in Den Helder, North Holland, Netherlands to George and Antje Jimmink. She is survived by her sons George (Tena) de Graaf, Pete (Jeanette) de Graaf, Rene (Shannon) de Graaf; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Pieter de Graaf; her parents George and Antje Jimmink; one sister; and three brothers. HOLCEK

MISS MATILDA HOLCEK passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Friday, March 27th, 2015, at the age of 88 years. Born in Stredni Czepin, Czechoslovakia on June 15th, 1926. Matilda immigrated to Canada in 1931 and resided in the Iron Springs area where her family farmed. Matilda spent a number of summers hoeing sugar beets in the area until her family moved to Lethbridge in 1942 where she remained until her passing. Matilda spent most of her career working as an Assistant to the Lethbridge Postmaster until she retired. Matilda is predeceased by her Father John, her Mother Rose and her six brothers and sisters: Joe, Mary, Annie, John, Rose and Irene. She spent the last two years at St. Therese Villa where she received exceptional care from their staff. We would also like to acknowledge Matilda’s friends, Leslie and Gerald Morton for their exceptional caring and love of Mat over the last year. A celebration of Matilda’s life and prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge on Monday, April 6th. Evelyn Mills

1926 – 2015

Mrs. Evelyn Mills, beloved wife of Ken Mills, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Evelyn was born in Prince Albert, SK to parents John Witten Norman and Lizzie Norman (Lane). Ken and Evelyn were married May 26, 1951 at the bride’s home in Prince Albert. They resided in Regina until 1953 at which time they moved to Lethbridge to raise their four children. Ev had a great interest in music and had a lovely soprano voice and sang in choirs from an early age. She sang in McKillop United Church choir, University of Lethbridge choir, and the Symphony chorus. She was secretary at McKillop Church for 21 years and was a great resource to many people and a member of the church for 60 years. Ev was a talented cook, knitter, seamstress and a member of the Lethbridge Weavers’ Guild. Besides her loving husband Ken, Evelyn is survived by her children: Ruth Mills (Todd Smaridge), Glenn (Eleanor), Don (Merna) and Janice Blumhagen (Lyle). Grandchildren: Alex Smaridge; Sheena, Cameron, Tess, Islie Mills: Aarin Gillespie (Myles), Matthew Mills (Brandi), James Mills (Annette), Kendra and Witten Blumhagen and great granddaughter Alice June Mills. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Leask and brother John Norman. She was predeceased by her parents John and Lizzie, brother Charles, sisters-in-law Marion Norman and Eileen Norman, brother-in-law Cameron Leask and in laws Harold and Marjorie Spencer, Donald and Florence Mills, grandsons Evan and Andrew Blumhagen. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 15th Ave. South, Lethbridge, with Rev. Trevor Potter officiating. Frances Vaselenak

1915 – 2015

Mrs. Frances Vaselenak of Coaldale, beloved spouse of the late Mr. Leonard Michael Vaselenak, passed away on March 31, 2015 just shy of 100 years. Frances was born on September 6, 1915 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Adolf & Anna Boguski. The family farm was just north on the Broxburn Road. She met and married Leonard (Mike) Vaselenak and together they farmed southeast of Coaldale. Frances was very active with the Coaldale United Church and Pythian Sisters. Frances is survived by her son Leonard G. Vaselenak, daughters Laverna Hranac and Gerry Kennon and three grandchildren Mark, Alana, Jeremy, as well as four great-grandchildren, brother Tony (Mary) Boguski; four sisters-in-law as well as many extended family members. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the COALDALE CEMETERY, Coaldale, AB with Pastor Gerald Klassen, officiating. Immediately following the graveside service, lunch will be served and all are invited to attend a time of fellowship & socializing at the COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, LOWER LEVEL 2316-17 Street, Coaldale, Alberta.
