BIRD

HORACE WILLIAM “Spum” BIRD JR. (BLACK PLUME), passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the age of 46 years.

Horace is lovingly remembered by his children, Kurenza Bird (Jeremy Spear Chief), Horace Trent Bird III and Brett Michael Weasel Head as well as his only grandchild, Abby Spear Chief, whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister Kaily Bird, brothers Dexter and Rodney Black Plume, Ruben Many Chief and Byron Crying Head.

Relatives and friends are invited to Wake Services at SIK-OOH- KOTOK FRIENDSHIP CENTRE, 1709-2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.

BURNETT

IAN BURNETT, beloved husband of Jean Burnett, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the age of 89 years.

Born in Cuminestown, Scotland, Ian emigrated to Canada in 1957 with his young family. He worked at International Harvester and until his retirement, for the City of Lethbridge Transit Dept. as a mechanic. He loved music and was a member of the Lethbridge Folk Club house band in its early years. Ian enjoyed camping with his family and in later years, golfing the small golf courses in the area with Jean and friends.

Ian is survived by his loving wife Jean, daughter Anne McLeod(Don), son Gavin (Alison Tennant), grandchildren Selena and Jeff Burnett(Lisa), Cameron(Heather Machida), Robert McLeod and Heather Burnett. He is also survived by great grandchildren Raelee, Abella, Danya, Kaitlyn, Maddie and nieces and nephews in Lethbridge and Scotland.

He was predeceased by his beloved son Neil, his parents, three brothers and a sister in Scotland, and his sister Milly MacFarlane of Lethbridge.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Hugh Jack officiating.

Anita (Wabby) Mills-Demarsh [Ksisstapitapiaakii (Spirit Woman)] passed away suddenly on May 15, 2015 at the age of 50 years of age.

Anita was born on October 1, 1964 in Cardston Alberta to the Late Jim Chief Calf & Virginia Mills. Anita is survived by her children; Brandy (Narcisse) Dixon, Bobbi Jo (Dacster) Amos & son Monty (Alicia) Dixon. 5 Grandchildren; Christina, Ocean, Joseph, Kaylina & Katalina. Her siblings Alvin Mills & Connie (Bob) Fox. Anita is also survived by her Great Aunts Emma Red Gun & Lena Brown Chief Calf, Aunties; Irene McHugh, Evelyn (Andrew) Wells & Theresa (Erwin) Melting Tallow. Uncles; Delbert, Randy (Doreen), Edward, Iver (Donna) Mills & Herbert Many Fingers. Extended family including the Chief Calfs, Twiggs, Many Fingers, Mills, Shade & others too numerous to mention.

Anita (Wabby) attended St. Mary’s School on the Blood Reserve where she enjoyed playing basketball, cross-country running and Track & Field. As a young lady she enjoyed horseback riding & was active on the Pow-wow trail. Wabby’s hobbies included reading & listening to music. She cherished & loved spending time with her precious grandchildren. Anita loved to be with her family, she would do anything for anyone that she knew. Anita really suited her Indian name Spirit Woman. Anita had a heart of gold & would be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.

Pre-deceased by her Parents Jim Chief Calf & Virginia Mills. Siblings; James Mills, Theresa Little Child, Derek Tall Man, Bonnie Mills. Niece; Jamie Red Crow. Also by; Mr & Mrs. Gordon Many Fingers, Mr & Mrs. Gerald Shade, Christopher Mills, Mary Rose Many Fingers, Edith, Liza, Richard, Franco, Rose Marie Mills. DOUGLAS WINSTON HENDRIE

Doug passed away on the evening of Friday, 15 May, 2015 after a long hard fought battle with cancer. He was born and grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta but travelled to many countries as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He was extremely proud of serving with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and then as an ‘841’ Fin Clerk until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed curling, playing darts and fishing until his health failed.

Doug is survived by his wife Carol, sons Todd and Ryan, his sister Margaret and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Very special thanks to the nurses, doctors and Home Care ladies who took such great care of Doug. We appreciate it very much.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, 22 May 2015, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 411 Gorge Road E. in Victoria from 1:00PM to 3:00 PM.

GLADSTONE

JIM GLADSTONE passed away at home on the Blood Reserve on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the age of 72 years.

Jim’s death was preceded by his parents, Fred and Edith Gladstone, June Wilms (sister), and son, Jace Gladstone. He is survived by his younger sister, J. Caen Bly; brother, Jeff Gladstone; and his 6 children: Stacey Schmidt (Greg Riley); Quincey Atkin (Troy Atkin); Chad Gladstone (Kim Gladstone); Skye Carroll (Martin Carroll); Lincoln Gladstone (first wife, Suzanne Johansen) and Zak Gladstone (second wife, Gloria Boucher); and 12 grandchildren, Trentin & Trey Atkin; Ashton & Tennison Schmidt; Madi, Miles, Chase & Callay Gladstone; and Solia, Atalya, Steele & Azure Carroll.

A Cowboy’s Celebration will be held at the Ranchman’s in Calgary, AB on Friday, May 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held at the CARDSTON AGRIDOME, Cardston, Alberta on Saturday, May 23 at 12:00 noon.

Friends may meet the Family at the LEGACY FUNERAL HOME, 107- 6 Street West, on Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Interment in the Family Plot, Blood Reserve.

FUMIKO JASIUKIEWICZ, beloved wife of the late Wesley Jasiukiewicz, passed away peacefully at Legacy Lodge at the age of 85 years.

Ida Lily (Waterfield) Murray

1921 – 2015

Ida Murray passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the age of 93 years.

She was the loving wife of the late Jacob Murray (2011). Ida was predeceased by her first husband, David Wheeler (1980). By her parents John Thomas and Lily Evelyn Waterfield, and all her siblings: Kathy, Dorothy, Robert, Bill, Tom, Neville, Audrey, Merill, and Donald.

Ida is survived by her son Thomas Wheeler, his sons: Kyle Wheeler, his daughter Kayla and Scot Wheeler (Barbara) and their three children: Ayana, Joshua and Andrew, Ida’s daughter Marilyn (Steve) Gillies and their children: Tobi (Myles) Kasun, and Rodney Gillies.

Ida was a homemaker, she loved to cook, was a wonderful gardener, seamstress and most of all loved to dance. We know Jay is waiting in heaven to dance to the Boot- Scootin’-Boogie.

Thanks to all the staff at the Good Samaritan’s Park Meadows Cottage #6 for all of their special care given to our Mom.

At Ida’s request, there will be no formal funeral service.

(CECIL) RANDY SHIPLEY

1950 – 2015

It is with great sadness that the family of (CECIL) RANDY SHIPLEY, announce his passing on May 16, 2015 in the Cardston Hospital. Randy is survived by his wife, Valorie; his children, Wes (Corrine) Shipley of Cardston, Jeff (Wendy) Shipley of Calgary, Jana Shipley Bugby of Orem, Utah, Tara (Wade) Stovel of Calgary, and Crystal Shipley of Red Deer, along with fifteen grandchildren; one brother and six sisters.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a young man served a mission in California. He served in various capacities in the church and most recently served as a temple ordinance worker and with his wife Valorie as stake missionaries in the Kainai Branch.

He was elected and served on the Cardston Town Council for two terms from 1992 – 1998.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, riding motorcycles, hunting, snowmobiling and travelling. Randy loved to tease by also showed great love and respect to all people that he came into contact with, and will be missed by many.

Friends may meet the family at the LEGACY FUNERAL HOME, Cardston on Friday, May 22 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. or on Saturday at the Church from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to the Service.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, CARDSTON ALBERTA STAKE CENTER (East Hill), on Saturday,May 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at the Cardston Cemetery.

LAWANA LIOBA WITZL, nee Many Bears, of the “Lone Fighter Clan” Blood Reserve, Alberta passed away at the Green Acres Foundation, Blue Sky Manor of Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, May 15th, 2015 at the age of 76 years.

Lawana was born in 1939 in Cardston, AB. She grew up on the Belly Buttes of the Blood Reserve and enjoyed hunting with her parents and picking berries with her aunties and cousins. She was the eldest cousin and was known as the “Protector” that defended family where need be. Lawana was home schooled and later attended Olds College. She was a supervisor at St. Mary’s School on the Blood Reserve then worked various jobs thereafter. In her spare time she enjoyed bingo, especially when she won seven times in a row! Lawana was spiritual and loved reading the bible. She also enjoyed having coffee at Tim Hortons. Lawana is lovingly remembered by her son, Keith Colt Callihoo, grandchildren; Brandy (Ian) Callihoo, Toby (Kelvin) Callihoo, Lesley (Cody) Wells, great-grandchildren; Cody, Colton, Jordan, Madison, Daylon, Jory, Abbey, Aaron, Leighton, Kareza, Suraye, Latrell, Luke and her great -great-granddaughter Kinliegh. She is also survived by her brother Tony Callihoo, nephew Denis Callihoo aunties; Rachel Big Plum, Mary Steel, Lucy Blood, adopted brothers; Wilford Blood, Charlie (Rhonda) Blood and many other relatives and friends too great to mention. Lawana was predeceased by her parents Nancy Many Bears, Mr. Wolf, uncles; Jack Many Bears, George Many Bears, Alford Blood, Peter Many Bears, aunties; Anni Cross Child, Philomena Twigg and her granddaughter Robyn Lynn Callihoo. WOJTOWICZ

With great sadness, the family of COLLEEN MAE WOJTOWICZ of Lethbridge, announce her sudden passing on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the age of 72.

Colleen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Carl, her daughter Sheila (Dana) Hudson, two granddaughters, Mackenzie (Keith) Kielstra and Brittany (DJ) Bent and two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Quinn Bent.

Colleen is also survived by her sisters; Sharon (Tom) Wright, Joan (Ray) Collett, brothers; Albert (Leona) Nevil, Richard (Charmaine) Nevil, sister-in-law, Kay Nevil, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father Elwood, mother Daisy and brother Arnold.

Colleen was born in Lethbridge and raised in various southern Alberta communities. She graduated in 1959 from R.I. Baker High School in Coaldale and married Carl in 1961. They raised their daughter Sheila and were very active in her life and the lives of their granddaughters. Colleen was thrilled with the arrival of her two greatest treasures, Natalie and Quinn.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.
