Her strength, sense of humor and quiet faith brought her through many difficult times such as caring for her ill mother at a young age, losing two brothers in WWII, raising her two youngest children on her own after being widowed early and the sudden loss of her second oldest son Gordon.

Shirley was an eternal optimist whose warmth, love of life and positive attitude always left you smiling and laughing.

Mom’s career was her family. She loved her Blue Jays and curling. She also loved and devoted countless hours to the betterment of “Little League Baseball”.

Mom and Dad travelled to Panama Canal shortly after selling their construction business “Malchow the Excavator”. Many of the projects they worked on can still be seen all over the landscape of southern and central Alberta.

After retirement, they went to the Yukon, built a humble placer shack and tried their hand at placer mining. Mom and Dad are renowned for completing ‘a trillion’ trips up and down the Alaska Highway.

Mom was a very kind, caring individual who loved her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren without condition. They loved her just as dearly during her last days. Lisa (granddaughter), Darren (grandson) and Lindsey (great-granddaughter) kept vigil over their beloved Grams night and day.

Anna May and Fritz will have celebrated 75 years of marriage on April 12, 2016.

Mom, your kindness, goodness and strength will be our legacy. We miss you.
