 Gayle Gjestland

1940 – 2016

Gayle Gjestland, 75, of Plant City, FL passed away on March 30, 2016. She was born on May 8, 1940. She came to Lakeland 28 years ago from Gresham, Oregon. Mrs. Gjestland worked as an exchange student coordinator.

Mrs. Gjestland is survived by her husband, Norman Gjestland, of Valrico, Florida, a son, Creggan Gjestland of Tampa, Florida, and a daughter, Cherith Gjestland, also of Tampa, Florida.

Ida Kammerer

1924 – 2016

Mrs. Ida Kammerer of Coaldale, beloved wife of the late Mr. Wilhelm, passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the age of 92 years.

KNIGHT

RUTH MAE KNIGHT, beloved wife of the late Ronald James Knight, passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

Ruth was born in Magrath, Alberta on August 19, 1926 to Harden and Lydia Anderson. She lived on a farm near Magrath for 18 years. After graduating from Magrath High School she took hairdressing in Calgary and then went to business college in Salt Lake City. While she was working as a secretary for PFRA, she met Ronald James Knight, a civil engineer working in water resources. They were working on the St. Mary’s Dam Project at the time. On November 17, 1951 they were married. She loved caring for her family, baking sticky buns and butter horns, and service in her church and community. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she knew that the Lord loved her. Ron predeceased her on June 12, 2002.

She is survived by her five children: Jacqueline Ruth Knight of Lethbridge; Sandra Lee Smith (Ricks) of Magrath; Gary James Knight (Lynn) of Lethbridge; Gail Janet Swerid (Kelly) of Calgary; and Ronald Scot Knight (Brenda) of Kelowna. Ruth is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law: Barbara Anderson, Bernice Coleman, Pauline Secretan, and Pam and Richard Knight, and many cousins.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, FAIRMONT CHAPEL, 205 Fairmont Blvd. South, Lethbridge, with Bishop Joshua Sherwood officiating.

Friends may meet the family prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m.

Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.

Ron Lane
1933 – 2016
Ronald James Lane, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Bow Island on Monday, April 4, 2016, following a courageous year and a half battle with cancer.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Tribute Service at the Christian Community Church, 415 – 4 Avenue, Burdett on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 7:00 P.M.
A private burial service will be held at the Burdett Cemetery prior to the funeral service.

Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixty one years, Norma; his children Brian (Eileen) Lane of Whitefox, Saskatchewan, Charlene (Ken) Rose of Burdett and Kevin (Carma) Lane of Burdett; foster daughter Sheryl Rocheleau of Medicine Hat; grandchildren Jason (Nina), Julie, Meagan (Cam), Melissa (Jered), Nathan (Whitney), Kayla (Logan), Danae, Jalen, Brandon and Jordan as well as ten great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Dorothy Clements, Margie Smith and Marilyn (Claud) Hitshew; brother Gordon (Lorraine) Lane.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Jessie Lane, brother Wesley Lane, sister Thelma Froese as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Ron was born on April 23, 1933 in Peace River. In 1936 his family moved to the Foremost area, and soon after they moved south of Burdett. On October 2, 1954 he married his love, Norma Peterson. Ron and Norma had three children and twenty one foster children that they raised on their farm south of Burdett. He was a man of many talents, carpentry, welding, mechanics, electrical work, farming and ranching, just to name a few. Ron served on numerous boards and committees in and around his community, most recently he served for twenty one years as a county councillor for the County of Forty Mile.
He was a very active member in his church. Ron served the Lord with his whole heart, and loved sharing Gods love with anyone he came in contact with. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Ron will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

McINTOSH

TIMOTHY CRAIG McINTOSH, father of Tara Asuchak, of Fort Macleod, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, on Thursday, April 7th , 2016 at the age of 59 years.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends who knew him on his journey.

Andrew John Sherman

1918 – 2016

Andy was born at home on the family farm at Keho Lake, February 17, 1918. He attended school at Keho School and his school mates remained his friends his entire life. At age 17, he left home to work for C.S.Noble. He was one of the welders that built the first Noble cultivator on the Noble Farm. When the first factory was built, he became shop foreman and later shop superintendent. He retired after 44 years with Nobles, and kept farming at his farm west of Champion until 1998.

Andy married the love of his life, Ada Smith, in 1941. They celebrated their 74th anniversary in August. Besides Ada, Andy is survived by his sister, Dorothy of Claresholm; Dr. Jack (Wendy); Betty; Karen (Dave); 9 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Andy was very involved in the community of Nobleford. He and Ada were on the committee that published the area history book, Sons of Wind and Soil, was a founding member of the Nobleford Area Museum Society, and the Nobleford Seniors Centre. He and his friend Harold Urvold assembled and refurbished all the Noble machines for the Noble Blade Park, and designed and built the Keho School cairn, on the site.

The couple moved to Lethbridge in 2004, 63 years after staring out in Nobleford. Most recently they resided at Columbia Assisted Living, where they received loving, personal care.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, April 22, 2016 at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 4 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend James Grunden, officiating.

Doreen Catharine Tokariuk

1931 – 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Doreen, beloved wife of the late Stephen Tokariuk, in the early morning of Monday, April 4, 2016.

Doreen was born on April 28, 1931 in Coaldale, AB. She moved to Lethbridge to work as an Administrative Assistant at the Haig Clinic. She married Steve Tokariuk on July 9, 1955 and moved out to the family farm in the Sunnyside area where she resided until moving to Columbia House in 2015.

She is survived by her three children: Cheri (Jim) Lindquist of Elk Point; Donna (Wade) Melnychyn of Calgary; and Gary (Elizabeth) of Sunnyside; 11 grandchildren: Kirsty, Travis, Brett, Kelsey, Brady, Tanner, Reagan, Rebecca, Matthew, Ben, and Stephen; 2 brothers: Bob Gschaid and Ron Gschaid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband Stephen Tokariuk; her parents George and Anna Gschaid; sister Elsie Nicholas and brother Louis Gschaid.

Grandma’s home was special for many family gatherings, the most special being Thanksgiving. Doreen enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, and traveling. Doreen was the Lethbridge Hurricanes’ # 1 fan.

Thank you to the Staff at Columbia House and Regional Hospital for their care and attention given to Doreen during her time there.
