Andrew John Sherman

1918 – 2016

Andy was born at home on the family farm at Keho Lake, February 17, 1918. He attended school at Keho School and his school mates remained his friends his entire life. At age 17, he left home to work for C.S.Noble. He was one of the welders that built the first Noble cultivator on the Noble Farm. When the first factory was built, he became shop foreman and later shop superintendent. He retired after 44 years with Nobles, and kept farming at his farm west of Champion until 1998. Andy married the love of his life, Ada Smith, in 1941. They celebrated their 74th anniversary in August. Besides Ada, Andy is survived by his sister, Dorothy of Claresholm; Dr. Jack (Wendy); Betty; Karen (Dave); 9 grandchildren; 9 great grand-children and many nieces and nephews. Andy was very involved in the community of Nobleford. He and Ada were on the committee that published the area history book, Sons of Wind and Soil, was a founding member of the Nobleford Area Museum Society, and the Nobleford Seniors Centre. He and his friend Harold Urvold assembled and refurbished all the Noble machines for the Noble Blade Park, and designed and built the Keho School cairn, on the site. The couple moved to Lethbridge in 2004, 63 years after staring out in Nobleford. Most recently they resided at Columbia Assisted Living, where they received loving, personal care. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, April 22, 2016 at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 4 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend James Grunden, officiating. Ella I. McColl

1926 – 2016

Ella Irene Livingston McColl passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, she attended Elementary School and finished High School at LCI. She enjoyed very much going to Galbraith’s 100th year anniversary in 2013. Her lifelong career was for Mountain Minerals Co. and she retired after 45 years of service. Ella was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. She loved going to Waterton and her many trips to Hawaii. She loved reading, walking, the “great outdoors” and had a large collection of Ella-phants and don’t forget MacDuff. Ella will be lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She was known for her kind nature, smile and friendliness. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 1614 5 Ave. S., Lethbridge, AB, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. Cremation has taken place.

FLETCHER

NYAL ALSTON FLETCHER, beloved husband of the late Matilda Freda Phillips Fletcher, passed away at the Raymond Health Centre on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the age of 99 years.

Friends may meet the family prior to the service on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Funeral Services will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Magrath Stake Centre, Magrath, AB, on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Michael Orr officiating. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.


Mrs. Inez Kelly

1938 – 2016

Mrs. Inez Kelly of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. William Kelly, passed away at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Vigil Rites will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Ave., S., Lethbridge. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, April 25, 2016 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Father Lukas Drapal celebrant.

MRS. CORNELIA KOCKEN

SANDERS

THOMAS LADELL SANDERS, loving father of Shanon and Bill, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre, on Saturday, March 26, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 63 years.

Tom was born April 17, 1952 in Lethbridge to Ladell “Dude” and Alexina “Zena” Sanders. He married Wendy Berglund with whom he shared some wonderful years. Many summers were spent taking the kids camping and fishing. He also enjoyed bow hunting and was quite skilled. During the winter, he enjoyed curling and entered many bonspiels throughout Southern Alberta. He then found his true passion and love of bowling. He not only bowled, he coached and mentored many youth bowlers over the years and would have told you “to keep your arm straight”. Tom was a true to heart good guy and family was very important to him, whether it was biological, from bowling or his second family at Fountain Tire. He was always willing to help anyone.

Tom will be forever loved and remembered by Shanon (Lance) Littlewood of Calgary, Bill (Melissa) Sanders and grandchildren Austin, Kaylee, and Kaitlyn Sanders of Lethbridge, girlfriend Karen Bader of Lethbridge, siblings Diane (Greg) Sereda of Chestermere, Gary (Brenda) Sanders of Lethbridge, Brian Sanders of Edmonton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ladell and Alexina Sanders and his sister Connie Nori.

A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at THE LETHBRIDGE SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANIZATION, 500-11th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Violet Emma Torfason

(nee Lawrence)

1916 – 2016

Our dearly loved Mother, Grandmother passed peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2016 with her son’s by her side. She is survived by her children, Ian, Kim (Catherine); grandson Joel and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years Bill; parents Bert and Mary Lawrence; sister Helen; brother-in-law Ken, and brothers Ivan and Ken. Violet grew up in Manitoba and moved to Lethbridge in 1949 when Bill accepted a position at the Lethbridge Research Station. Violet’s greatest love was her family. She was a very caring person who loved to help those in need. She was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army as every year she would make a hamper of knitted goodies to go to those less fortunate. Violet was a life time charter member of the Rebekah Lodge. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.
