DEKLERK

ARIE DEKLERK, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre, on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the age of 70 years.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 47 years on (May 2nd), Martha: his children: Sandra (Ted), Debra (Naz), Ken (Jodi) and Curtis (Catherine) and 11 grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, he also enjoyed being the Canadian father to the many foreign students who stayed at their home.

Arie was the oldest son of Dirk and Aagje deKlerk and a brother to 10 siblings.

He devoted his life to his family, his church and most importantly to God. He made many friends through his open and generous nature.

God’s love shined through him in all areas of his life and he will be truly missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M.

GRANT MAXWELL JENSEN passed away peacefully in Cardston, Alberta on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the age of 100 years, beloved husband of Wanda Borchers Jensen.

LODERMEIER

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father GERALD JOSEPH LODERMEIER, of Lethbridge, Alberta, on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the age of 72 years.

Gerald is lovingly remembered by his children; Bruce, Wanda (Mike) Heaphy and Tracy (Dave) Romanchuk as well as his beloved grandchildren; Jordan, Matthew, Tyler and Samantha. He is also survived by three brothers; Dave, Keith (Glenda) and Philip (Diane) and sister Leona (Terry) Collins.

He is predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Vivian, loving wife Marilyn and sister-in-law Joan.

Gerald loved watching all sports, but he particularly loved hockey. His favourite NHL team was the Edmonton Oilers. He also enjoyed playing bingo with family and friends. For those of you who had the honor of knowing our father, his generosity, loyalty and selflessness are but a few of his captured traits. A special thank you to the staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre for the care and compassion they showed our Dad during his time there.

A Graveside Service will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. Following the Graveside Service, relatives and friends are invited to a reception at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. from 12:30 to 2:30 P.M.

PRAILL – SHELLEY KRISTINE September 13, 1961 –

Chatham, Ontario April 28, 2016 – Lethbridge, Alberta

SHELLEY KRISTINE PRAILL passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 54 years. Shelley (Kris) is survived by her two daughters: Jennifer (Angus) Praill and Jessica Praill from Lethbridge, and two granddaughters Kaylee and Haylin. Kris is also survived by her mother Barbara Pavelson, one sister Kimberly Ann (William) Given of Strathmore, Alberta and one brother Kenneth Praill of Canmore, Alberta. She also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father Kenneth G. Praill of Chatham, Ontario. She was employed at Progressive Waste Disposal for the past 8 years. Kris was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She loved to go fishing and camping as often as she could. She loved her job and most of all she loved her family, especially her two beautiful granddaughters. They were the love of her life. A Memorial service will be held at the WESTMINISTER CHAPEL, 329-19 Street North, Lethbridge on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Rohan Crown officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family later that night as well at the Westminister Chapel from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.


RICE

WESLEY WALDEN RICE passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 91 years, beloved husband of Ruth (Ririe) Rice of Magrath, AB. He was born in Magrath, Alberta, on May 3, 1924, to Walden Jennings and Mildred Lucinda (Clark) Rice. He received his schooling at Spring Coulee and Magrath. He married Ruth Kathleen Ririe on September 28, 1945 in Magrath. They were married for 70 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; and his children, Val (John) Halladay of Medicine Hat, Janice (Johnn) Sterzer of Highland, Utah, Bob (Michelle) Rice of Lethbridge, Cindy (Jim) Irwin of Calgary, Ron (Laura) Rice of Burley, Idaho, and Jackie (Rusty) Rollingson of Magrath; 24 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Gene (Betty) Rice of Stockton, California, and Gordon Rice of Cut Bank, Montana. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Russell Rice.

He farmed with his father and brothers west of Magrath near Bradshaw Siding. He later sold life insurance and real estate.

Wes was an avid sportsman. He played basketball with the Magrath Zeniths, the Magrath Rockets, the Edmonton Town Hallers and the Lethbridge Broder’s Chinooks to name a few.

While playing for the Rockets, he scored 55 points in one game, at a time when there was no 3 point line and no “and one”. This established a new provincial record. He was considered a “hustler” and gave his all no matter whether ahead or behind. He took several scoring titles in Alberta and International leagues and was named the Southern Alberta Sportsman of the Year in 1949. He was recently inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Broder’s Chinooks basketball team who won the Canadian National Championships. He later went on to coach senior men’s basketball including Doug’s Sports and the Alberta Chinooks, who went to the Canadian Championships 6 times. At the time, he was the only person who had played, coached and refereed at the Canadian Championships.

In baseball, he played with teams including the Magrath Eagles, coached by his father, Walden a.k.a. “Bally” Rice, the Lethbridge Nisels, the Seattle Rainiers, and played in the Western Canada and Wheatbelt Leagues. Wes also loved to hunt, fish and collect arrowheads.

Wes and Ruth have 6 children, 24 grandchildren, and 47 great- grandchildren. He loved his family and spent many hours supporting his children and grand-children in sports and other activities.

Wes had many friends and could always be counted on to stop and visit for a while! He loved his grandchildren and never tired of sharing time with them. He will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, GARDEN PLACE CHAPEL, in Magrath, Alberta, on Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family at the church on Friday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.

SCOUT

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and sister, FREDA SCOUT “KII KSI KAI PII TA KI” (BLACKFOOT OLD WOMAN), who passed away peacefully at the Cardston Auxiliary Unit on April 29, 2016 at 64 years old. She was born on August 20, 1951 at the Blood Indian Hospital to the late Ben & Sarah Scout.

Freda is survived by her loving daughter Shannon (Freddie Vielle) Scout; four grandchildren: Brody, Wilmer, Danielle and Bob; four great grandchildren: Keyshawn, Akiva,. Amaya and Roan; five brothers: Ken (Theresa), Martin (Alma), Ben Jr. (Audrey), Lavern (Ann) and Charlie; three sisters: Rosetta (Jordan), Rosanne (Justin) and Justine (Cletus); also Stabsdown and Scout families.

She was predeceased by her son Bentley Chief Moon; daughter Kassie Soop-Scout; parents Ben & Sarah Scout; two sisters Victoria and Catherine; two nieces Jolane and Shania; one nephew Simon.

The Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, May 5th at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Friday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Blood Band Cemetery.

Dolores Faye Svensen, passed away in Taber on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 79 years.

AUSTIN LUCAS WRIGHT, beloved son of Jasmine Wright (Tyler Hogan), passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the age of 9 months.

He will be sadly missed by all Jasmine and Tyler’s family and friends.
