Mr. Clarence “Barry” Fawcett

1937 – 2016

Mr. Clarence “Barry” Fawcett of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Yvonne Fawcett passed away in Lethbridge on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the age of 79 years.

Barry was born June 20th, 1937 in Portage la Prairie, MB when you could buy a new home for $4,100.00, a new car for $760.00, and gas was 10c a gallon. He and his younger brother, Don, had a good and happy childhood centered around the Salvation Army church where he learned to play in the band.

At age thirteen he moved with his parents, Clarence and Violet, to Calgary where he attended Balmoral Jr. High School, then Crescent Heights High School where he enjoyed success as a bandmember and Sr. football player…the rest he tolerated.

Barry continued his association with his church, the band, and made many friends. A big bonus was meeting a lovely young lady from Hanna, a plumber’s daughter, who he turned into a Fawcett and with whom he was to spend the next 57 years. Together he and Yvonne produced three sons who begat 13 grandchildren.

Family was very important for both Barry and Yvonne and they relished family gatherings where all members would get together for fun and fellowship. At these gatherings they lived up to the family motto, “It’s Fun To Be A Fawcett”.

Upon leaving high school Barry worked with his father in direct sales with Watkins Products, and after the passing of his father in 1966 he took over the distributorship of Watkins Products for the city of Calgary. In 1972 he went to work for Calgary Tent & Awning Co. until 1989 when he and Yvonne purchased Lethbridge Custom Canvas Ltd, where he worked until retirement in 2003.

Barry was involved in his community for 20 years as a Cub Scout leader, Assistant Little League coach for 3 years, and executive member of Winston Heights/Mountainview Community Assn. in Calgary for 10 years. He served on the Lethbridge Evangelical Free Church elders’ board for 6 years, their Missions Board for 6 years, and the National Evangelical Free Church Missions Board for 6 years. He welcomed people into his heart and home and was generous to those in need, reaching out to many.

Barry is survived by wife Yvonne; two children, Craig (Noreen) and Kevin (Melanie); daughter in law Linda Dickenson (Kevin); and 13 grandchildren: Chad (Jolene), Chris, David (Jenelle), Brendon, Sean (Melissa), Lucinda, Jonathan, Melody, Melinda, Karis, Talia, Maia and Aden. He is predeceased by his parents and son Perry (1996).

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPELS, 610 4th Street, S., Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 4717 24 Avenue, S., Lethbridge, Alberta.

Interment was held prior in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to SABC (Southern Alberta Bible Camp) 151002 Range Road 212 #100, Lomond, AB T0L 1G0 or to Gideons, PO Box 3619, Guelph, ON N1H 7A2.

Mrs. Ruby Kurtzweg

1945 – 2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our precious mother and grandma, Ruby Sharon Kurtzweg, of Lethbridge, (formerly of Foremost) who left us on September 8, 2016 at the age of 70 years. She has gone home to be with the Lord and her late husband, the love of her life, David Kurtzweg. After 34 years of separation, we can only imagine that the reunion has been sweet.

Left behind to cherish Ruby’s memory are her three children Kerry (Vanessa) Kurtzweg, Curtis (Terri) Kurtzweg, and Brenda (Ron) Ridder. She will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren Caitlyn (Tim Aitken), Colton & Karina Kurtzweg, Jordan, Anderson, Britten & Lincoln Kurtzweg, Tannis, Jamie, & Brandt Ridder. She also leaves behind to mourn one brother, Glen Davies, of Vernon BC & her sister-in-law Lois Hoult of Lethbridge, AB.

Ruby’s story began when she was born on December 19, 1945 to Samuel and Clara Davies in Ft. St. John; the youngest daughter of four children. Ruby took her first sleigh ride coming home from the hospital to the farm where she lived with her parents. Her early years were spent on the farm doing chores and working the garden alongside her mother and her sister Vera. She attended school in Ft. St. John and later pursued a nursing program in Vancouver, BC. She moved to Medicine Hat where she completed school and graduated at the top of her class in 1968. It was in Medicine Hat that she met the love of her life, David Kurtzweg, and they married in July 1969. She started her new life in Foremost alongside her partner and together they built a farm and raised a family. As a family we enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling with friends and boating on hot summer days, but flying was the past time that Mom loved the most. Between checking crops and holidays, Dave’s plane saw a lot of use.

Mom’s world crashed in November of 1982 with the unexpected passing of her best friend and love, David. With God’s help and strength, and sheer determination, she continued raising her family and managing the farm while protecting her children from the upheaval. After Curtis graduated in 1988, Mom and Brenda moved to Three Hills, where Brenda completed high school. Mom then furthered her nursing training and worked in Drumheller. Mom always enjoyed learning and took several courses at Prairie that entertained her many interests.

In 1992, Mom moved back to Lethbridge and retired. This time of her life was very fulfilling as her children married and her family grew to include ten grandchildren. She often went out to the farm and enjoyed going for rides in the tractor and combine as this brought back fond memories and created new ones. Mom enjoyed playing games, baking pie, and having tea with her children and grandchildren. Mom loved seeing the world with her friends and family and continued to be an avid traveller. She grew tired of the southern Alberta winters and spent as much time in Yuma, AZ as she could.

Mom was a faithful servant to her Lord and Saviour. She supported many Christian organizations and missionaries and was often “caught” reading her Bible. Mom will be especially missed for her humour, thoughtfulness to others, wisdom, and hospitality; her door was always open and the teakettle was always on.

Thanks, Mom, for the legacy and Godly heritage that you have left us. You will be greatly missed by us all.

Family and Friends are invited to a visitation service between 6:00pm – 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm, on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the UNIVERSITY DRIVE ALLIANCE CHURCH, 55 Columbia Blvd., West, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Jacque Forge officiating.

A Private Family Interment was held in the Foremost Cemetery.
