Joanne Dunlop

1956 – 2016

Joanne Lee Dunlop of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the age of 60 years on October 26, 2016 at her home in Fairmont Extendicare where has resided since July 2012. Joanne is survived by her mother Joyce Dunlop, two brothers Randy (Rochelle Roy), Gary (Bev), niece Jenae Dunlop, nephew Jordan Dunlop (Kourtni), grandnephew Felix, and her second family Marlie Duncan, Kevin Matis, Kaden, and Mykah.

She was pre deceased by her father Doug Dunlop and her grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Joanne attended the Dorothy Gooder School. After graduation, she participated in the Rehabilitation Society of Southern Alberta and worked many years at Ability Resources, where she developed many good life-long friends. Joanne’s enthusiasm and excitement was always evident, especially for getting the bus.

While still at school, she joined the Special Olympics in its formative years. She was an energetic competitor, participating for over 30 years. The friends she made there formed a significant part of her social network. She loved all events and excelled at swimming and bowling, winning many metals at Provincial and National levels. Joanne earned gold and silver twice at the Canadian Special Olympics.

She loved traveling with her family to Hawaii, Phoenix, and Whitefish, and enjoyed visiting relatives in Northern Saskatchewan and the Vancouver area. She loved music and enjoyed musicals and movies.

Joanne brought great joy to her family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her lovely smile, her sense of humour, and her loving, light-hearted nature. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Dunlop family would like to thank Dr. Janzen and the CRH Heart Function Clinic, The Southern Alberta Community Living Association, especially Mavis, Matis and Leslie Villeneuve, and the staff at Fairmont Extendicare for their exceptional care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH (2329 15 Ave. S.) with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.

1986 – 2016

Ryan Konynenbelt of Cochrane, formerly of Lethbridge, beloved son of Connie Elliott and Marlin (Darlene) Konynenbelt, father to Royce Konynenbelt/Soenen, and brother to Shaw Elliott, passed away at the age of 30 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Rodger Halvorsen officiating.

KURUTZ

JOHN KURUTZ of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mable Kurutz, passed away suddenly at his residence in Garden View Lodge on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

John is survived by his daughter Loretta (Lawrence) Craddock, his two grandchildren, Tim (Dayna) Craddock and Kelly Jo Craddock (Bob White), one great-grandchild Crosby Craddock and his sister Marjorie Ferguson as well as numerous extended relatives.

Besides his loving wife Mable, John was predeceased by his parents John and Martha, sister Angeline, brothers-in-law Richard Ferguson, Eugene Chollak and sister-in-law Helen Evans.

John was born in Czechoslovakia, immigrating to Canada at the age of five. He farmed with his family near Eight-Mile Lake in the Sunnyside District until he began his 17-year career as Partsman at Cockshutt Farm Equipment. John married the love of his life, Mable Chollak in 1951 and they celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage on June 3rd, 2016. His heart was broken with her passing 6 weeks later. John was a very talented woodworker, artist and loved playing his harmonica. Never having lost his love for farming, he always checked his rain gauges and the local crop conditions. John’s family meant everything to him; he delighted in every family gathering. He was truly loved by all of his family and will be sadly missed for his caring ways.

A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Gary Sedgwick officiating.

A Private Family Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.

Cicely Hulley Lacaille

May 29, 1927 – October 16, 2016

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Cicely on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She will be forever missed by her sons, Charlie of Ottawa, Greg of Montreal, Roger of Whiskey Creek; daughter, Kathy of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel, Laura, Scott, and Chanel, Severian, Tiegan and Arianne, Hope and Jordan; great grandchildren, Niko and Killian; sisters, Betty and Sheila of Lethbridge, Olive of Edmonton; brother, Victor of Penticton; her constant dog companion, Tex. Cicely was predeceased by her husband, Paul; parents, Charles and Louisa Hulley.

Known and loved by many as “Nana”, Cicely was tireless in her support of local charities and will be fondly remembered for her endless generosity, kindness, and compassion. A true lover of nature, she treasured her home, her garden, her plants and most of all her family.

WENDY SANDER

1958-2016

Wendy took her last breath, with her husband, mom and dad by her side. She went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2016, after a long courageous battle with radiation induced synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive disfiguring form of cancer.

Wendy was born in Calgary, lived in St. Catherines Ontario, Red Deer and Sundre, moving to Lethbridge in 1980 and in 1987 married her soul mate, James.

Wendy is survived by her loving and devoted husband James, her Mom and Dad Ollie and Lorraine Procyshen of Claresholm, Mother and Father-in-law Frank and Elaine Sander of Coaldale and all of her extended family.

Wendy worked for twenty years with Alberta Transportation and Environment, retiring in 1999. Camping, hiking, jeeping, racing, traveling in the motor home, she was always in support of her husband’s automotive adventures.

No more pills, no more pokes, no more pain.

Rest in Peace my love.

At Wendy’s request, there will be no funeral service.

Flowers are graciously declined.


SHARON WEBB

Sharon Webb, beloved wife of Steve Webb, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 19, 2016 at the age of 61.

Sharon was born in Calgary to Lillian and Ivan Millar and grew up in Lethbridge. Sharon met her husband Steve at university and they were happily married for nearly forty years. After retiring several years ago, they moved to Surprise, Arizona where Sharon spent her time traveling, gardening, enjoying nature and making glass art.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Steve Webb; her mother, Lillian Millar; her sisters Michelle (Allan) Jacobs and Lavonne (Neil) Herbst; and her brother Murray (Karen) Millar.

Sharon’s friends and family were very blessed to have been part of her life. Her gentle, patient, and giving nature will be greatly missed.

JOAN GAIL SIMMONS, beloved wife of Dave Simmons, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Palliative Care on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 at the age of 73 years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dave; children, Lance (Sylvie), David (Michele), Darren (Gaylene), and Karyn (Richard); grandchildren, Christopher (Tricia), Jenna, Braden, Luke, Avary, Harrison, and Kennedy; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Patsy), Sandra (Bob) and Darcy (Estelle). She is predeceased by her parents, Myrtle and Albert.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:30 P.M.

GEORGETTE MARIE STINSON, beloved wife of the late Ernest “Ernie” Stinson, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 at the age of 90 years, after a valiant effort for life.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim (Tony Laturnus) and Kris Stinson (Neil Parisien).

Georgette and Ernie celebrated 50 years of marriage together.

THOMAS

BURKE ALSTON THOMAS, Born April 5, 1925 passed away October 27, 2016 at the age of 91. Burke was preceded in death by his parents, all eleven of his siblings and 2 grandsons, Wally Thomas and Steve Hall.

Burke was born and raised in Glenwood, Alberta. When he was a young man he served his country in World War II as a mid-upper gunner in a Lancaster bomber. When he got back, he married the ‘prettiest girl at the dance’, Freda Rose Reeder. They have been married for almost 70 years! They have six children, Vicki (Doug) Smith, Patricia (Tom) Hall, Rosalee (Randy) Janisko, Kelly (Kathy) Thomas, Jack Thomas, and Zoe (Dave) Brinkhurst.

He made life-long friends and was a great influence with everyone he came in contact with, be it coaching on the ball field and hockey rink or buying grain for the UGG Elevator.

A Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glenwood, Alberta on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the Glenwood Cemetery.

Friends may meet the family at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

JOHN GORDON THOMPSON, beloved husband of Ilene Gay Thompson, passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the age of 79 years.

He is the loving father of: Kevin (Kathy) Thompson of Highland, Utah, Shannon Sahlen of Lethbridge, AB, Deanna Thompson of Medicine Hat, AB, and Darcy (Elizabeth) Thompson of Saint George, Utah. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and sisters Alene (Royden) Shurtz and Marie (Winston) Soaper.

John is predeceased by parents Joseph and Mary; brothers Delbert and Donald, and sisters Lucille and Evelyn.

Friends may meet the family prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, NORTHSIDE CHAPEL, 2223-6 A. Avenue North, Lethbridge. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Aric Pavan officiating.

Interment to follow at the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond at 2:30 p.m.
