Herman Konynenbelt

1934 – 2017

Hermanes “Herman” Konynenbelt, beloved husband of Carol (Bos) passed away peacefully on April 15, 2017. He was 83 years of age.

Dad was born on January 4, 1934, on the family farm near Nobleford, Alberta. He enjoyed life on the farm, particularly at harvest time. He often looked forward to hunting pheasants after the chores were all done. He was a true prairie boy, whose roots were firmly planted in the Southern Alberta soil of his birth.

While at an International Bible Camp in Waterton in 1955, Herm noticed and fell in love with a lovely young lady from Montana. Thus, began Herm and Carol’s long-distance relationship. Later that year, God called Herm to pursue further studies at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Carol enrolled at Calvin the following year. They both graduated in 1959 with Education degrees, and were married that summer. They were blessed in their marriage with 2 daughters and 3 sons.

Dad served as a teacher and administrator in Christian Schools, first in Edmonton and then in Lethbridge. He was passionate about and dedicated to participating in Christian education. “Mr. K” touched the lives of many students, parents, fellow staff and school community members.

Dad enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, renovating, camping, yardwork, singing in Men’s Choir, and cooking a delicious Sunday roast. Dad loved his children and grandchildren, taking a keen interest in their schooling, activities, and accomplishments. He treasured every visit and phone call from his family, and eagerly looked forward to every opportunity to gather all together.

Dad’s faith in his Lord and Savior was a clear testimony to his family and friends. He spoke often with us all of his love for Christ, and his faith was abundantly evident to us all in both his words and his actions. Dad’s roots were also firmly anchored in the rock of his salvation.

Herm leaves to cherish these memories his wife of 57 years, Carol, his children Joan, Joy, Vince (Heather), James (Heidi), and Phillip (Gwen); along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Jenna (Benjamin) Morgan, Leah; Jonathan (deceased); Justin and his daughter Addison, Brittney (Ty) Jensen and their daughter Naomi, Amanda; Jordan (Waverly), Kevy, Vanessa, Eric; Morgan, Colt, and Cole.

Also, mourning his loss are Herm’s sisters Fanny (Case) Kuipers, Seenie (Ben-deceased) Bouwman; sister in law Patricia (Bert-deceased); as well as Carol’s brothers Bob (Virginia) Bos, Don (Stephana) Bos (both deceased); sister Elaine (John) Vander Schalie. Herm’s cousins and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn their beloved “Uncle Herm.”

Dad is predeceased by his parents Henk and Dena Konynenbelt and Carol’s parents Joe and Cora Bos.

We will all miss the twinkle in Dad’s eye, his quick wit, his keen reflective mind, and his gentle, generous, loving heart. He was our precious treasure – husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, teacher, friend. Our arms long to hold him, but we rejoice that he is now in the loving, everlasting arms of his Lord and Savior.

Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects between 5:00pm – 6:00pm on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge Alberta.

A Graveside service will be held for family and close friends at 11:00am on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the NOBLEFORD CEMETERY, Nobleford, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 260 McGill Blvd W, Lethbridge, Alberta with Pastor Jim Zondervan, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the World Renew Canada, 3475 Mainway, STN LCD 1, Burlington, ON L7R 3Y8, 1-800-730-3490 (or 905 336 2920)

LANDON

RUTH ESTHER LANDON, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, surrounded by her family, on Sunday April 16, 2017 at the age of 66.

She is survived by her husband Donald Kenneth Landon, her sisters; Gloria (Keith) Samuels, Marilyn (Larry) Marleau, Judy (Ron) Quigley, and Debbie (Kelly) Chikmoroff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a perky, athletic and competitive young lady.

After graduating from L.C.I. she fulfilled her lifelong ambition, to serve her God Jehovah, full-time as a Pioneer. After her giving a thorough witness at home, she moved to Quebec, where the need for evangelizers was greater.

Whether you were a stranger she met in the volunteer ministry or a close friend, she was always focussed on your needs and ready to give of herself for your betterment. She was a passionate and effective teacher of God’s Word, as can be attested by her numerous “letters of recommendation”.

In marriage she proved to be a loyal best friend and confidante to her husband Ken of 46 years. She was always supportive as a wife and the horizon was always optimistic.

As a senior she didn’t slow down in her engaging in the Bible education work. With joy, she proudly preached about the Kingdom hope to anyone within earshot. All will miss her happy contagious personality.

Special thanks to Dr. Walsh and the staff at St. Michaels palliative care unit for their outstanding personal care and consideration for Ruth.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Lethbridge Lodge Grand Ballroom, 320 Scenic Drive S, Lethbridge, on Saturday April 22, 2017 at 11:00 am with Shonavin Trowbridge Officiating
