BERARD

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of our dear “Mom, wife, grandmother and friend”, Joan Louise Berard (nee Vassen) of Raymond, AB. Joan passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the age of 78 years in Cancun, Mexico.

Joan was born in Biggar, SK on March 7, 1939. Joan lived most of her life in and around Lethbridge where she raised her two children Pierre and Andrea and later met her lifelong partner Robert (Bob) Will of 33 years.

Joan was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Berard in 1988. Joan is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her partner Robert (Bob) Will; daughter Andrea (Paul) McNeil and her son Pierre (Diane) Berard. Joan was blessed with three grandchildren, Cory, Meagan and Carley who all miss her dearly. Joan is also survived by her sister Marie; her brothers Gord and Norbert.

At Joan’s request, there will be no funeral. A small family gathering will take place later where Joan will be laid to rest at the Mountain View Cemetery, in Lethbridge AB.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations being made in Joan’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

1930 – 2017

BRENDA BURKE, beloved wife of the late Fred Burke, of Lethbridge, passed away at the St. Therese Villa, on Monday, May 15th, 2017 at the age of 87 years.

Robert “Bob” David Filgas

1955 – 2017

Mr. Robert “Bob” Filgas of Lethbridge, husband of the late Angelika Filgas, passed away after a lengthy illness, on May 7, 2017 at the age of 61 years. Robert was born July 23, 1955, in the Lethbridge Regional Hospital to David Ernest Filgas and Marilyn Miladinovic. He attended Hamilton Jr. High and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. Bob worked for Lethbridge Iron Works and Southern Feeds prior to becoming self-employed as a painter and maintenance man. He enjoyed music, collecting records, old cars and politics. He leaves behind his daughters, Crystal Lynn (Darren) Stevenson and Teresa Lynn (Michel) Vankriken; son, Jason Cory Filgas; grandchildren, David Vankriken, Alissia Vankriken, Valerie Vankriken and Cayley Stevenson; sisters, Brenda Filgas and Michelle (Randy) McGrath; brothers, Ronald (Judy) Filgas and Randy Filgas; mother, Marilyn Miladinovic as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Bob was predeceased by his son, David Michael Filgas and his father, David Ernest Filgas. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday May 19, 2017 at the MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Rohan Crown officiating. A Memorial Reception will be held at 1:00pm at the McKillop United Church, 2329 15 Ave South, Lethbridge, AB. Flowers are gratefully declined. SHIRLEY TAILFEATHERS HEALY, 76, beloved wife of the late Dave Healy, passed away in Lethbridge on May 12, 2017.

A Wake Service will be at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Blood Reserve on Friday, May 19th from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Saturday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Melvin “Mel” Roy Armour

1948 – 2017

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Melvin “Mel” Roy Armour of Coaldale, on May 9, 2017, at the age of 69 years. Mel was born February 6, 1948 in Calgary, Alberta. An avid outdoorsman, Mel’s interests were vast. His love of everything outdoors has left those close to him with fond memories of the times spent with him camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, flying, horseback riding, participating in shoots, annual trips to the States with the “boys” for gun shows, photography, sitting on a sunny beach, snowshoeing, and much more – including a disastrous attempt at snow skiing. Mel’s work life, too, was varied. He worked as hunting guide in the Yukon and later in southwestern Alberta, as a ranch hand at the McIntyre Ranch, a service technician at Oliver Irrigation and Hi-Way Irrigation, owned and operated Plainsland Irrigation, and was employed as a plot person at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada until the time of his passing. He was predeceased by his father, James Donald Armour; his mother, Anne Marie Agnes Black; his stepfather, George Albert Black; and his half-brother, Roy Jensen. Mel leaves to mourn his godson, Ben (Jessie) McKenna, and numerous individuals who were proud to call him “friend.” Mel was a loved and treasured friend who epitomized kindness, caring, loyalty, respect, and good “old fashioned” values and beliefs. A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. RASMUSSSEN

April 15, 1926 – May 9, 2017

EULA MARY RASMUSSEN beloved wife of Floyd Rasmussen (deceased), born April 16, 1926, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on May 9, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Eula was born in Cardston and raised in Taylorville.

Eula was married at the age of 18 years and moved with Floyd to the farm in 1944 and lived there until 1998 when she and Floyd moved to Magrath. Eula was well known for her numerous talents such as sewing, knitting, quilting and various crafts. She belonged to the Rinard Club and was Queen of TOPS. She loved picnics with the family, especially wiener roasts. She made the best fried chicken, potato salad and sticky buns. Spring was always her favorite time: feedings the lammies (lambs) with the grandchildren and taking walks to the “crick” to pick crocuses and shooting stars. Eula’s favorite hobby was genealogy and she created many books with history. With a big garden and home grown milk and livestock, Eula and Floyd raised nine children and created a life of memories.

Eula is survived by her nine children, Ronald (Judy) Rasmussen, Loy (Lynn) Stuckey, Penny (Glenn) Secretan, Jim (Marion) Rasmussen, Judy (Gordon) West, Jessie (Roy) Jaffray, Carrie (Barry) Shipman, Reg (Danette) Rasmussen, Troy (Michele, deceased) Rasmussen, 31 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (Sam) Pawluk and Jim Henrie. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd,and siblings Loy (Sis) Mitchell, Ethel Brown, Leah (Tiny) Williams, Daniel Henrie, Merlin Henrie, Gaylon Henrie, Keith Henrie, Edwin (Ted) Henrie, and Glenn (Bud) Henrie

Friends may meet the family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, CARDSTON ALBERTA STAKE CENTER on Saturday, May 20th from 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. The family is honoring Eula’s wish to have only a graveside service with family and friends at the Taylorville Cemetery.

TADEUSH “TED” RUTKOWSKI, beloved best friend of Pat Lazarick, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Raymond Health Centre, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the age of 66 years.

Ted is survived by his son Dylan Rutkowski, and two grandchildren Taylor and Hailey Rutkowski, aunt and uncle Steve (Lydia) Danyluk as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sigmund and Vera.

Ted was born June 19, 1950 in Raymond, where he was raised and educated. He later went to SAIT and was employed in the oil field and pipeline industry as an Electrician and Safety Codes Inspector. Later on,  he had his own consulting business, Ted Rutkowski Consulting Ltd. He will be remembered for his strong will, kindness and sense of humour that he shared with everyone. He will be dearly missed, but we know he is now free of pain. Rest in Peace Ted.

We wish to express sincere gratitude to Carlos Jensen, Russ and Debbie Court, all the doctors and health care workers who assisted Ted during his illness. You are our “Earth Angels”.

A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.

ARVID KURT SCHREINER, beloved husband of the late Elisabeth Schreiner, of Milk River, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

JUDITH ELSA TUDOR

March 26, 1947 – May 10, 2017

JUDITH ELSA TUDOR, of the Readymade area, passed away in Lethbridge after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the age of 70 years.

Judy was the youngest child of Elza and Buella Tudor (Forsythe). Judy grew up in the Readymade community and made it her home base for life. Judy was a free spirit and enjoyed many creative adventures: playing her piano, sewing, drawing, painting, and working at her potter’s wheel. She was a member of the Potter’s Guild and the Lethbridge Artist Club. She loved her cats and was the best vet for them. In the early years she worked as a sign clerk at Woolco, a bank teller at CIBC, a secretary for Electrolux, and later, as a Personal Care Attendant for Family Care. She spent the last 15 years being the best caregiver to both her father and mother.

She leaves to mourn her passing her brother, Lloyd Tudor; her sisters, Donna Gregor and Patricia Allan as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. A Celebration of Judy’s Life will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Donna Gregor officiating with a reception to follow.

Following the reception, Judy will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.
