CARTHEN

It is with deep sadness that the family of JOAN CARTHEN (nee Robinson) announces her passing, with family at her side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 at the age of 84 years.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of forty-two years Water Carthen, her parents Fletcher and Ruby Robinson, her sister and brother-in-law Roberta and Roy Ellis, her brother Don Robinson, and sister-in-law Betty Anne Robinson. She is survived by her children Brent Carthen of Castlegar B.C. and Jodi Carthen of Washington State USA, and by her grandchildren Blake and Darrel Horner, her brothers Garry Robinson and Darrel Robinson, and sisters-in-law Donna Robinson and Marry Anne Robinson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan was born in Lethbridge in 1933, growing up in various southern Alberta communities as the family moved between RCMP postings in Waterton, Magrath, and Taber. Joan attended Galt School of Nursing before moving to California where she worked as an emergency room registered nurse in Tulare while she and Walter raised their family. They returned to Lethbridge in 1980 where she shared her love of nursing as an instructor at Lethbridge College until retiring in the early 1990s. Joan spent her retirement years enjoying family and her love of gardening.

A Wake Service will be at the Moses Lake Hall, Blood Reserve on Thursday, Nov. 30th from 7:00 p.m. all night. The Funeral Service will be at the Moses Lake Hall on Friday, Dec. 1st at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Blood Band Cemetery.

Rose Maynes
1933 ~ 2017
It is with sad hearts that we announce  the passing of our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Rose Maynes at the age of 84 years. Rose was born October 18, 1933 in Lethbridge, Alberta. She passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, November 26, 2017. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Charlene Goodhand, Sandra Mercer, Cindy  Burton, Wendy Kallen. Rose leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren & 1 great-granddaughter.  The Funeral  Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 3:00 p.m.  Interment will take place in Lethbridge, Alberta in the spring or summer of 2018. Memorial donations in Rose’s name may be mad to the SPCA either in Medicine Hat or Lethbridge, Alberta. MINERVA “CAROLYNNE” PURNELL, beloved wife of Leonard Purnell, passed away in Cardston, on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the age of 85.

Friends may meet the family at the Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Friday, December 1st from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. or at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 11:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel in Cardston, Alberta, with Bishop Randy Jensen officiating. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.

Sheldon Watson

1975 – 2017

Mr. Sheldon Watson of Coalhurst, beloved husband of Melody Watson, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at Foothill Medical Centre in Calgary on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the age of 42 years. Sheldon was born in Coaldale on January 24, 1975 to Emily Caouette and Stanley Watson. Sheldon spent his childhood in Grand Prairie and moved back to Coaldale during his teenage years. As an adult, Sheldon moved back and forth from Calgary to Lethbridge until he married his wife Melody Watson in 2002. He settled down in Coalhurst for the remainder of his life, where he raised two daughters with Melody. For 13 years, Sheldon worked with the McDonald Auto Group as a Sales Associate and Manager. He was also a member of the Town Council in Coalhurst for 4 years. Sheldon enjoyed golfing, gofer hunting, and gathering with all of his family. He was an active member at City Light Church and attended weekly bible studies. He spent countless hours throughout his life volunteering within his church, the Town of Coalhurst, and in Full Gospel Business Men. Sheldon had a heart of service. Besides his loving wife Melody Watson, Sheldon Watson is survived by his mother Emily Caouette, 2 daughters Jessica and Emily Watson, 2 sisters Michelle Riegling (Chad Riegling) and Monica Watson, 1 brother Micheal Caouette, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families. Sheldon was predeceased by his father Stanley Watson, grandparents Otto and Ruth Friesen, and Stan and Ruth Watson, uncle and aunt Dyck and Carol Sawa, aunt Vivian Boyer, and loving aunt Rose Whiteford. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Friday, December 1, 2017 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street S., Lethbridge, Alberta. A Celebration of Sheldon’s Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, with Pastor Doug Shimoda, officiating. A Private family burial will be held in the Coaldale Cemetery.
