ALEXANDER, Robert (Bob)

September 15, 1939

– Lipton, Saskatchewan

April 25, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Alexander announces his passing into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the age of 78 years.

Born and raised in southern Saskatchewan, Bob attained his Chartered Accountant certification, and operated his own accounting firm(s) until his very last day. Bob made many contributions to his community politically and otherwise, including being the former Director of the Conservative Fund of Canada, and chairperson of the Family Action Coalition Board as well as many others.

Bob will be greatly missed by his daughter Candace Beyer; son and daughter-in-law Von and Michelle; son-in-law Gary Beyer; his grandchildren, Derek (Cassie), Devon (Jessica), Chelsea (Adam), Brittany (Daniel), Travis, Megan, Jerod, Joel; his great-grandchildren, Kessiah, Mckayla, Emily, and Bennett; and nieces, Lauren and Sandra Rezansoff. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, sister Donna, and brother-in-law Paul.

The Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Southview Church (20200 Walden Boulevard S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Southview Church. As Bob was an avid sports fan, we are inviting guests to sport with us one of his teams’ colors or apparel for the service (New York Yankees, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Browns). BALUTIS

PETRE BALUTIS passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 93. Petre was born at Boblaukas Kaima, Lithuania on February 24, 1925 to Jonas Masaitis and Antanine (Priespilis).

She is survived by her children Irene Balutis (Hubert Birkner) and David Balutis (Brenda), her grandchildren Kelsey Balutis (Mel) and Andrea Balutis, and by her brother Jones Masaitis (Dagmar).

Petre was predeceased by her husband Peter and by her sister Eugenija (Titas Uogintas).

At the age of 19, Petre was the first of her family to emigrate after the war. She arrived in Edmonton knowing little English to become a nanny to two young Canadian girls. She loved Edmonton, her family, the Lithuanian community (that included both the Catholic Church and great dance parties) and singing in Lithuanian choirs. She was a great neighbour and shared her bountiful garden crops with everyone.

She was terribly proud of her granddaughters and was sad to leave Edmonton. She spent her family years in Lethbridge helping Irene in the backyard.

A special thank-you to the wonderful people at Martha’s House for their many years of kindness to our Mom and to Dr. Garland Jonker for his love and care.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Edmonton at a later date.

John Phillip “Jack” Neis

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jack Neis on April 25, 2018 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, with his loving Josie by his side. Jack leaves to mourn his partner and best friend Josie Janz, his sons Garnet (Lori) and Marty, and his three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jayson and Ross. He also leaves to mourn Josie’s daughter Heather and her family and many other family and friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents Henry and Barbara, his wife of 38 years Linda, and his brothers Bill and Doug. Jack was born on July 2, 1949 at Lacombe, AB. He attended school in Mirror and Alix and later moved to Edmonton where he began his career in sales. He eventually moved to Lethbridge where he raised his family and happily retired in 2007. Shortly after Linda’s passing Jack moved to Red Deer where, after five years, he met Josie in 2013. This renewed his love of travel as they took many trips together to some of their favorite places. Jack had a passionate love of music, sports, antiques and collectibles. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mirror Community Hall with the Interment to follow at the Mirror Cemetery. Please join the family back at the hall for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Willard Penner

1924 – 2018

Mr. Willard Penner of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Erika Penner, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

Willard Penner, son of Dave and Maria Penner, was born in Sibena on September 22, 1924. In the spring of 1926, Willard and his family migrated to Canada, and travelled by wagon to Grassy Lake, Alberta where they started a farm. Willard grew up on the farm and went to school in Grassy Lake; through these years he collected many memories and stories that will be cherished for years to come. In the year 1950, Willard married his beloved wife Erika and together they built a life on the farm that they shared with their four children and grandchildren.

Willard was a man of faith and he lived it out each and every day of his life, carving out an example of service to Christ for his family that will be a lasting legacy.

Besides his loving wife Erika, Willard is survived by his 2 daughters Sharen Harms and Connie Peters; 2 sons Don Penner and Murray Penner; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Jake Penner and Bill Penner; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Willard was predeceased by his parents Dave and Marie Penner; brother Dave Jr. Penner and sisters Erna Dyck, Freda Neuman and Marie Thiessen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH OF LETHBRIDGE, 4717 – 24 Avenue S., Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Dave Acree, officiating.

A Private Family graveside service will be held in the Grassy Lake Cemetery.

LEONARD PIOTROWSKI 1945 – 2018

Leonard Piotrowski of Manyberries, beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Piotrowski, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 73 years. Leonard leaves to cherish his memory his children, Tim (Tannis) of Manyberries and Sue (Gord) Wudrich of Bow Island; two grandchildren, Barrett Piotrowski and Taylor Wudrich (Shandi Balog); two brothers; two sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and Marilyn Ross. Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane; his parents, Stanley and Cecilia; and seven siblings. Leonard was born on January 25, 1945 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. He grew up with a love of ranching owning and operating the Lost River Ranch. Leonard enjoyed rodeo, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. His yard was immaculate, and he was always on time. He was a Past Director of the Chinook Rodeo Association and an Honourary Director of the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede. The Funeral Service will be held at the CYPRESS CENTRE, 2055 – 21 Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. David J. Carter officiating.
